Discusson Group Notes April 30, 2010

Discussion Group

Too many commitments in April have kept me from posting my weekly notes, and I'm still behind so I'll just post some of the more interesting items to bring everyone up to speed.

Bryan talked about having another field trip to LA as well as areas like Marina Del Rey, Venice, Echo Park, and more. He even said that he would be willing to lead a field trip.

We've talked about upcoming and potential workshops. Terri plans to do one on scrapbooking and I would like to do one on framing, possibly in July or later.

Davelene joined us and gave us the rundown on her photography background and preferences.

Claudia, not yet a member, has been participating to learn more about photography.

Vivian asked about the advantages of different lenses. We answered her questions as far as our understanding went. There's always more to learn even for those of us who've been working with different lenses for a while.

Deborah has been trying to bring in new prints each week and doing a great job. We've had a great time passing around portfolios and telling stories about our photos. Here are a few that she's shown recently.

Here's one of Deborah's many flower photos.

Deborah caught this obliging bee.

If you want to see more then come by and join us some Friday. Deborah has been working with our macro lenses and extension tubes to get very close-up/macro photos.

Terri told us about the Digital-Rebels forum on groups.yahoo.com (which I've since joined). As a supplement that forum has purchased space on PBase.com to share photos but members can store them anywhere they like.

The upcoming AV Fair is becoming more of a topic as time goes on. The upcoming LVAG/LPA competition has also caught our attention.

Those are the highlights.

If you can, please join us each Friday evening at Denny's at the corner of Ave K and 20th West. We begin about 6:30 PM and usually go to at least 8:30 PM.

You can drop by at anytime and stay for as long as you like (you don't even have to buy anything).

Denny's has graciously provided us a section to ourselves and the service is great.

All photography related subjects are fair game and there's never a planned agenda. You can bring in your questions, your stories, your equipment, your photos (paper or digital), or even just yourself to sit, listen, and/or talk.

I would again like to extend a special invitation to both new members and the more expert members who would like to participate in these informal discussions.

You are welcome to visit the LPA forum and leave your comments and/or questions under "General Club Comments."
