Judged by Photographer Nancy K. Varga

Nancy got started in photography at age 12 when her interest was piqued by 16X20 prints made from 35mm. negatives. The wonder of it was there. The maker shared his knowledge and gave her some darkroom equipment, and she was on her way!! She progressed to the 35 mm. Argus C3 when she graduated from high school and soon graduated to an SLR. She converted to digital photography in 2004.

She has been active in the Photo Naturalist Camera Club in San Diego since 1988. She enjoys photographing all areas of nature from flora and fauna to landscapes and macro work. Whenever she travels, she takes along camera gear to take advantage of any good photo opportunities.

Most of her photography has been done here in the Western United States with travel to Colorado to the East, Alaska, and Canada to the North, Baja California to the South, and all points in between.  She has also traveled to Botswana, Africa to photograph in the Okavango Delta, and Patagonia, Chile, to photograph fall color and the landscapes of Torres del Paines National Park.
She has won honors in the Nature & Eye Contest of the San Diego Union-Tribune, at the Del Mar Fair, the Scott Watson Salon, and Mission Trails Regional Park in San Diego. Her work has been displayed at Nelson’s Photo Store in San Diego and at Bob Davis Camera in La Jolla. Several of her photos have been used in publicity brochures for Mission Trails Regional Park. She has won honors in International Salons sponsored by the Photographic Society of America.  She has put on some programs for the various clubs of SCACC (Southern California Association of Camera Clubs) as well as interested Senior Groups and photography classes. She taught a short course in photography at the North Rim, Grand Canyon National Park where she volunteered as an Interpretive Ranger in the summer for ten years.

Some of her other interests include bicycling on a recumbent bicycle; hiking; volunteering as a Trail Guide, Staff Volunteer and Trail Patrol at Mission Trails Regional Park; camping, and enjoying the beauty of the night sky.
