Discussion Group Notes June 15, 2008
Tonight there were only three of us and I can only guess that summer activities are beginning to take their toll.
One lengthy topic of discussion, which appears to be timely, was the definition of "Classes" for the fair. Photography for the purists is probably quite simple but for those of us who like to experiment with their photos the classification scheme becomes uncertain. For example, Marilyn and I both have used some of the artistic filters in Photoshop to create pictures that look like they might have been painted. It's uncertain whether these would come under "Computer Imaging" or "Abstract." It's also uncertain whether those taking in our pictures at the Fair would agree with our assessment, which could prevent us from entering all of our selected pictures.
Jerry showed us some of the photos he took at a tatoo convention. They looked painful. He also described a wireless remote he recently purchased which sounds very useful.
Some upcoming events of possible interest are:
- June 21-22, the Lakes and Valleys Art Guild (LVAG) Studio Tour (661-724-1312, possibly only open on weekends)
- July 12 - August 3, AVAAA (Cedar Center) Juried Art Exhibit With take-ins
- July 8th. - July LVAG Black & White exhibit with take-ins June 28th and 29th.
- July 12 - Aug 24 Lancaster Museum/Art Gallery (LMAG) Experimental Photography Exhibition -
- July 12, the last day to submit entry forms for the AV Fair photo competition.
Oh yes, last Sunday I stopped by the art walk and came across some representatives From Harmony Color (harmonycolor@live.com) who showed me some nice examples of their prints on canvas and card-stock. If you don't already have a favorite printing company this might be one to check out.
Next week I'll be in the Sequoia National Forest attending what I would call a Survivalists Convention in the Woods. I hope to get lots of pictures of people starting fires by rubbing sticks together, hand-making bows, teaching about edible plants, and such. But I'll be back the following Friday.
We meet each Friday at Bianco's Cafe at the South end of the Lancaster Market Place, behind and across the street from Movies 12.
The core times are from 7 to 8 PM but there's typically someone there from 6:30 to at least 8:30.
