Introduction to Lightroom

Twenty-two members were present for the Introduction to Lightroom 2 workshop.

Lightroom is geared towards photographers whereas Adobe Photoshop is geared more towards graphic designers. Photoshop contains the Bridge program which is a browser, useful for viewing your photos, and adding some keywords. Lightroom is a data base program and allows you to view and quickly find and organize your photos using keywords, ratings, flags, and collections.

David gave a demo on the Library and Develop modules of Lightroom. There is also a Slideshow and Print module.

The demo was easy to follow. Questions were answered, and tips were shared. Bonnie Matthews shared a handout “My 5 Coolest Lightroom Commands” (By Helen Bradley) with everyone.

Some club members are already using Lightroom, and for those who are interested in trying it, a 30 day free trial of Lightroom 2 is available for download from Adobe at http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshoplightroom/. Lightroom 2 is roughly $250 (street), but if you are a student, only $100. There is a public beta of Lightroom 3 that can be downloaded from Adobe Labs at http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/lightroom3/. Anyone can download the Beta version for free, but it will stop working once the Lightroom 3 is released.
