Willow Springs Raceway has been one of the favorite field trip destinations for the Lancaster Photography Association (LPA) for many years. Because of the constant fast action of the cars, motorcycles and go-karts Willow Springs is the place to go to hone your action photography skills. So please join us on Saturday, November 20th for a day of fun filled action photography.
On the day of our visit, Willow Springs will have numerous events taking place such as Motorcycle Racing on the Big Track and on the Horse Thief Mile Track, Go-cart Racing on the Kart Track, Car Racing on the Streets of Willow Track, Speedway Willow Springs Events on the ¼ mile asphalt track, plus special Extreme Speed Track Events. With all of this action taking place, there will be plenty to photograph no mater what your interest. (View the calendar at www.willowspringsraceway.com)
The management at Willow Springs has been gracious enough to allow members of the LPA free admission to all outfield areas on the day of our visit. We will meet outside the main gate at 8:45 A.M. so that we can get a final head count to give to their office, and then we will go to the grand stands near the Balcony (the big green building on the west side of the Big Track), for the “group photo” and some quick tips on how to set your camera to get the best action shots. After that we will disburse to the various venues around the track for a fun filled day of photography. As a side note, there is a snack bar on the first floor of the Balcony that serves sandwiches, hamburgers, drinks and snacks, or you may want to bring your own picnic lunch.
To get the best up-close action shots, it is recommended that you use at least a 200mm telephoto lens at the Big Track and at the Horse Thief Track. For shots at the Kart Track, Streets of Willow Track and the Speedway Willow Springs Track, you may want to use wider angle lenses. Also, you may want to bring a tripod, cable release, polarizing and special effects filters.
This field trip will be weather dependent – If it is raining
on the day of this event, the field trip will be automatically cancelled.
