December 2010 Holiday Party

Sue Craft opened our December meeting at 6 p.m.

We offered 5 tickets to everyone, as they arrived, for the Opportunity Drawing for items donated by LPA members. Donations of $5 were accepted. All funds donated will be given to  the Friends of the Senior Center. These proceeds can help them with anything from an ice cream social to replacement of tables and chairs. LPA also had copies of the CD and handout from our recent workshop on Creative Photography. These are offered for $5.00.

After a very big thank you to Tylene Trout and her helpers for dinner and Faith W for dessert. We served ourselves to a great dinner. We had lasagna, salad, corn, dinner rolls and punch. Again, thank to all that helped in preparation and serving of dinner. Faith made a great cake decorated for Lancaster Photography Association and even made chocolate cameras. During the evening, Doug Wade was wandering thru the room to get pictures of all who attended. These are already posted to the website under the gallery. Be sure to check them out.  Any left over lasagna was donated to the homeless shelter.

As we finished up with dinner and socializing, Helen Henry presented our Holiday Photo Contest. We had some great entries this year. We had the program broken up between Novice/Amateur and Advanced Amateur/Masters. This competition is just done for fun and will not be included with the year end competition. The January newsletter will include a new feature which will include information about the 1st place winning photos. We will start to do this for all competitions.

Helen Henry gave the competition report: January – “Open” judged by Rich and Liz Breault; March –  “Portrait” judged by Julie Sutton; May – “Step Into The Past”. June will be the year end competition with both a judge and membership judging.

David Wilkins is in the process of setting up the February program, check back on the website for more information

Douglas Wade, the Workshop chairman announced January will be Portrait Photography by Susan Cowles; February – Smart Phone Photography by Douglas Wade; March is TBD and April will have a Tamron presentation by John Van Steeburg.

Bill Sutton announced a new field trip planned for January 8th. We will traveling to Riverside for the S4C Competition. We will be leaving at 6:45a.m. from Palmdale. We can carpool down to Riverside and details on where to meet will be posted on the website. We also have a field trip planned for Jan 29th to Red Rock Canyon. This is being led by David and Chris Wilkins. All information and sign up for these trips are available on our website.

Lyle Trusty reminded us the December 31st is the deadline for entries in the S4C January competition. He also mentioned the field trip to S4C in January. He would like as many people as possible to visit and see just what is involved in the judging.

Nan Carder announced that we will be participating in the George Glennie Nature Competition again this year. The club will be presenting ten pictures.

Terri Garner will be taking over as moderator for the Friday Night Discussion Group. The next meeting will be January 7, 2011 at King Photo on the Blvd.

David and Chris Wilkins presented the Prime Desert Woodland Preserve CD to the Lancaster City Council on December 14th. You can view the video of the presentation and reaction from the audience at http://www.cityoflancasterca.org/ We be have a viewing of the CD at Prime Desert Woodland Preserve in the near future. Once the date and time are set, it will be posted on the web site.

Sue Craft announced the LMAG  Juried Art Show. It will be held Feb. 5 thru Mar. 27. The deadline for A.V. Lifestyle is December 31st. Winning entries will be published in February.
