Friday, October 7th, 2011 - Led by Sue Craft & Bill Sutton
On Friday, October 7th, at 7:30 A.M. Santa Anita Race Track in Arcadia will be hosting their second Photo Day at Santa Anita Park. This special event provides a great opportunity for an LPA field trip to see the world of horse racing up close and personal and to get some fantastic action shots of morning workouts and afternoon races, the stable area, the paddock, the jockeys and trainers, the Winners Circle and the beautiful grounds of the Santa Anita Park facility with the spectacular San Gabriel Mountains as a backdrop.
In addition to being able to shoot from the rail during the morning workout, groups are taken trackside for shots of the starting gates during the actual races. With so much to see and do at Santa Anita, it is hard not to come away with some spectacular images that you will treasure for years to come. Also, Santa Anita will provide you with a link for submitting your best images for posting on Santa Anita’s website. Santa Anita charges a fee of $20 per person for this event, which includes parking and general admission to Santa Anita Park, a buffet breakfast at 10:00 A.M., and press credentials for the day. Tickets can be purchased online at www.santaanitaevents.com. NOTE: There will be a limited number of tickets available for this event, so it is important that you purchase your tickets early.
LPA Members attending this event will meet just outside the Clocker’s Corner entrance gate at 7:15 A.M. We will gather for a group photo and some tips on how to get the best shots of the track side action once we have completed the registration process and received our press credentials.
To get the best shots of Santa Anita Park and the action filled races, it is recommended that you bring Wide Angle and Telephoto Lenses, a Monopod (Note – Tripods will not be permitted in the park for this event), Polarizing and ND Filters, and a flash. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes because there will be a lot of walking involved with this event. Also, consult the local weather channels prior to coming to the park so that you will be prepared for whatever Mother Nature has to offer.
Helen has provided a tip sheet for you to review before the trip.
We look forward to having you join us for this special day at the races – Please sign up below.
