We will meet at the Antelope Valley Senior Center at 6:00 p.m. We need you to send in up to 5 images for critique. These can be photos you have entered at the fair or other competitions, or just photos you would like input about. We will have a short presentation about judging criteria. Then we will go through the images you have sent in and ask for critiques from the members of the audience about each image. We will look for both positive critique and what could be improved for each image. Learning what to look for in a competition image is very helpful in helping you progress as a photographer and entering competitions, such as LPA, S4C, PSA, PPA, or PPC. These skills also help you when you are out taking photographs and thinking about what you want your final photo to look like, adjusting your location, lighting, settings accordingly. It will be at 6:00 p.m. at the Antelope Valley Senior Center. The deadline for entry is OCTOBER 13, 2026 AT 11:59 P.M. All members are eligible to enter up to three photos for the $5.00 entry fee.  ENTER HERE [https://www.lpaphotography.org/photocomp/index.php?eventID=207] Entering a competition is a great way to get feedback on your images and learn how to create stronger photos. We encourage our members to enter, as each image gets a short critique from the judge.  Travel is a reality-based class, so you will need to follow the rules as given below regarding the photos. TRAVEL - A Photo Travel image expresses the characteristic or distinctive physical features or distinctive culture of a country, region or continent as they are found naturally. There are no geographic limitations. Images from events or activities arranged specifically for photography or of subjects directed or hired for photography are NOT allowed. Close up pictures of people or objects must include features that provide information about the surrounding environment, so as to indicate they were not taken in a studio. Time exposures are allowed if they do not dominate the image as a special effect (no star trails, etc). Note: An image taken just while traveling may or may not fit this definition. The primary elements of the image must be distinctive or characteristic with respect to features or culture. Editing: As with all reality-based divisions (Nature, Photo Travel, and PJ), techniques that add, relocate, replace or remove any element of the original image, except by croppying, are not permitted. The only allowable modifications are the removal of dust, scratches, or digital noise, restoration of the existing appearance of the original scene, sharpening that is not obvious, and complete conversion to grayscale monochrome. Other derivations, including infrared, are not eligible. All allowed adjustments must appear natural.  Note: Restoration of the appearance of the original scene may include techniques, such as HDR, focus stacking, and dodging/burning, provided they do not alter the contents of the original scene and the result looks natural. Borders: Borders are optional, but must be 3 or 4 pixels in width and must be white or a shade of gray. The meeting will start at 6:00 p.m. at the Antelope Valley Senior Center. She will share with our club various photography projects she has worked on and discuss them with us. Her incorporation of various other mediums with photography to create an immersive experience will give us new ideas of how photography can be used.   BIO: Elizabeth Preger creates large-scale immersive environments that utilize photography, video, sculpture and sound. Recorded interviews and oral history are integral to her practice as a way of proposing an act of collective listening while asking, "Who is talking to whom?" and "Who is Listening?". Her work activates narratives around nature and peole, where the subjects of her own cultural history, and the documenting and developing of relationships, are always framed in resilience. She earned a B.A. in Art from UCLA in 2010, and an M.F.A. in Photography and Media from CalArts in 2018. Her work has been the subject of solo shows at Kathmandu Photo Gallery, Bangkok and Artery Post-Modern Gallery, Bangkok, and included in group exhibitions in the U.S., curated by Anne Ellegood, Daniella Lieja Quintanar, and Mark Allen. We will have a grand time together learning about human interest/travel/portrait photography. All levels of photographers are welcome! You must purchase your tickets on-line before the event. We will stay in Bishop and travel to various photo opportunities from there.  Please make sure to get your hotel reservations early. Fall is a busy time of year for the Eastern Sierras. Motel 6 and Best Western are next door to each other and both are recommended, based on your price point. Photo adventures will include the Bishop Creek area and lakes, Convict Lake, June Loop, Bodie Ghost Town, Mono Lake, Owens River and Hot Springs, and any other spots we happen upon. They will be doing drills and running stages. As a seasoned wildlife photographer, he will share photographic tips regarding seasons, subjects, locations, and tactics. He has spent over 2200 days shooting in the park, so he is very knowledgeable about the different species and their particular field tactics. AT THE ANTELOPE VALLEY SENIOR CENTER (777 West Jackman Street, Lancaster, CA). This workshop is for those who are registering for the AV Fair Photo Exhibit and will help you mount your photos in preparation for PRINT TAKE-IN DAY ON SEPTEMBER 16TH.  Participants will need to bring their printed photos and enough foam board (3/16" thick). LPA will provide spray adhesive, surfaces to spray on, straight edges, knives and cutters, and demonstrate the mounting process.  LPA members are encouraged to come and provide assistance to those less experienced.
