Monochrome Competition – January 16, 2018

On January 16, 2018, we will be having a competition with the theme “Monochrome”. Our judge will be Rod Rolle, who was one of our AV Fair judges this past summer. We had a great workshop recently with Hutch Hutchison, who gave us some great tips on converting and enhancing our monochrome images, so we hope to see some great entries for this competition. The deadline for entries will be 11:59 p.m. on January 9, 2018.

In her presentation she will briefly discuss the knowledge and skills one needs to be successful in creative photography along with brief slides applying these both to the creation of images with textures and Composites.

Holiday Party December 19th

We are having our annual Holiday Party at 6:00 on the 19th of December at the Antelope Valley Senior Center. This will be our only meeting this month because of the Holidays.

So plan to attend and enjoy a time of fellowship and celebration of the Holidays. We will be having our Best Photoshop Greeting card contest so be working on your letters and cards. A special prize will go to the Best Card. Also be sure to bring your Holiday Card efforts on a thumb drive the night of the meeting.

We will be having a dinner of Pizza and Salad for the cost of $5 per person which can be paid when you come to the Party. We are asking everyone to bring a Holiday desert to complement the pizza dinner.

So come enjoy the Card competition, Caroling, Pizza and a raffle for some door prizes.

Street Photography - February 20th General Meeting

[image1_left]Nyla James will be our speaker for the evening.

[image2_right]Nyla James is a highly regarded photographer and speaker. She is a lifelong resident of California, belonging to two local camera clubs and a Monthly Meet-Up group called “How Photographers Think”. She has had a love for photography since high school. Starting out with film, advancing into the digital age has been quite an experience for her. She is a continual learner, taking classes, reading and always open to trying new ideas. Nyla has participated in a number of group shows and had her first major one-person photo show in May of 2015 entitled “Abandon America”.

[image3_left]Nyla enjoys speaking and has spoken twice at the annual PSA Conference. She has also judged several international photo exhibitions, including the Great British Print Circuit in the United Kingdom. She is the PSA California State Membership Director and has recently joined the PJD team as their Conference Program Committee Chair. Nyla says that photography is the language that unites her with the world.

Hope to see all of you on February 20th as this special speaker shares her passion for photography with us !!!!

Aspiring PAPARAZZI - this is your opportunity Friday, November 17, 2017

NOTE!! DEADLINE EXTENDED TO NOVEMBER 14 - SIGN UP TODAY!

The City of Lancaster is celebrating its 40th anniversary. There will be a Gala on Friday, November 17th, 2017 at LPAC. LPA has been requested to provide paparazzi for the event from 6:30 pm until 7:30 pm in the LPAC Courtyard to photograph dignitaries on the red carpet. LPA participants should be prepared to meet at 6 pm for a briefing meeting and photograph from 6:30 to 7:30. There will be a lighting set up and a step-and-repeat background. Your own flashes are welcome too.  Paparazzi should be attired all in black.  Resulting pictures in jpg will be sent to the city via Dropbox. Details about picture submission will be sent to all LPA participants.  All photographers will receive a media packet and badge. The city representative, Renee Dykstra, needs a list by November 14th. If you would like to participate please sign up below before 12 Noon on November 14.

Remember that Night images is more than just stars. City lights, fireworks etc also fit in the category.

Our Judge for the night is Robert Fields. He was one of the judges from the AV fair this year.

Please join us as we welcome Robert for a no-host dinner at 4:30PM at the Greenhouse Café, in Lancaster, before the Competition and General meeting.

Hands-On Prop Workshop – 10/24/2017

[image1_left]On October 24, 2017, come join Lancaster Photography Association at 6:00 at the Antelope Valley Senior Center for a fun workshop! Bring your camera and your flash. We will have a short presentation on creativity and using props in photographs. Then we will have a time of hands-on photography where we will use various props to create unique photographs. We will provide a variety of props for you to play with including scarves, masks, fans, flowers, lace, screens, musical instruments, hats, sports equipment, etc. If you have a prop that you think would be fun to share, please bring it! It will be close to Halloween, so you might even bring a costume to play around with! Use your imagination to make this an interesting and instructive time.
