Sign up below to join us for a fun day taking photos at Union Station, Olvera Street, and Chinatown.

Union Station is a great art deco building and has many great photos to offer. Olvera Street is great for Human Interest and Travel photos, and Chinatown has many interesting photo opportunities as well. We can take the Metro back to Union Station to reduce the walking distance, if needed (included in Week-end Metrolink ticket cost).

We will be taking Metrolink down to Union Station in the morning and coming back in the afternoon for $10.00. Lancaster Metrolink leaves at 9:04 a.m. and from Palmdale at 9:13 a.m., getting to Union Station at 11:10 a.m. We will coordinate to ride down in the same train car. We will either come back on the 3:51 p.m. train, or decide to spend extra time down there, and come home on the 5:25 p.m. train. We will play it by ear, depending on who comes on the field trip and how warm the day is.

Trona Pinnacles Field Trip - May 20, 2023

Lancaster Photography Association is planning a field trip to Trona Pinnacles on May 20, 2023. It is new moon time, so it will be great for night photography such as Milky Way and Star Trail Photography. Let’s hope for clear skies and some great photos! There is little, if any, cell phone reception there, so plan ahead. Bring snacks and water.

We will meet at the Main Parking Lot on the north-west side of the Pinnacles at 6:00 p.m. (The restroom is located there). I will send out a map to those who sign up.

Sunset is at 7:53 p.m., so that gives us about 2 hours to scout the area and choose some locations for our night shots. Bring your camera with a wide angle, f2.8 (or lowest you have), a tripod, a remote trigger or intervalometer, and a comfortable chair. If you are doing star trails you will be sitting around for a while!

Some people may be spending the night there and others may choose to get a hotel in Ridgecrest or drive home, depending on how late you want to stay. That is entirely up to you.
