Wow, what a photo trip!  Once again, Lyle Trusty put together a great tip, and shared lots of photo tips.  Lyle shared the importance of having a graduated neutral density filter, and how to use it for sunrise and sunset shots.  In addition to leading us to all sorts of great spots, he also provided hints on the best time of day to be in certain areas.  Lee Simmons realized that she needed to be in way to many spots at 9am!

Bodie and Mono Lake Field Trip

September 6-8, 2006

Wow!  What a trip!  Twenty four members drove over 600 miles to make the round trip to Bodie, an old ghost town out in the middle of nowhere.  We drove up the washboard dirt road and headed straight towards the big billowy thunderheads that filled the intensely blue sky.  In Bodie, the rustic old wooden buildings were lit by the late afternoon sun.  The dry grassy weeds blew in the breeze, and the bright yellow rabbit brush glowed in the sun.

Coast Field Trip, June 24-25, 2006

Once a year, John Wells goes all out and puts together a field trip.  With a lot of thought, planning and coordination, he decided to do something a bit different this year and take us on a weekend trip to one of the prettiest areas of South-Central California.  The trip included three historic missions (Santa Ines, La Purisma, and Santa Barbara), the unique little Danish town of Solvang, with its many shops, bakeries and Danish architecture, the fields of flowers at Lompoc, and Stearn’s Wharf in Santa Barbara.

Huntington Gardens Field Trip, April 2006


Field Trips

Fifteen LPA  members gathered at Crazy Otto’s in Acton for a hearty breakfast on Saturday morning.

We left there at about 9:45 a.m.  There was a little low fog, but by the time we reached our destination, the sun was out and the weather was warming up.  We all met for a group picture before going our separate ways inside the gardens.  Some of us headed toward the rose garden and the Japanese gardens.  Others went to the desert garden and the conservatory.  I think between us we probably covered most of the area gardens, and got some good photos during the course of the day.
