PSA Annual Conference, Pittsburg, PA: The 2017 conference will be held at the Pittsburgh Marriott City Center on October 8th - October 14th, 2017.  

PSA Nature Division Interclub Competition (Round 1): There were no awards or HMs.

PSA Photo Travel Division Interclub Competition (Round 1): Entries for the PSA Photo Travel Division Interclub Competition were the following: Clearing at Valley View (Christine Wilkins), Four Young Monks (Richard Wood), Mammoth Hot Springs 01 (Tom Van Langenhoven), Mono Lake Sunrise (Richard White), Still Standing (Marilyn Peake) and Zuni Mud Ovens (Robert Christman).

PSA Projected Image Division Interclub Competition (Round 1): Entries for the PSA Projected Image Division Interclub Competition were the following: Bison 0017 (Eugene Duley), Branching Out (Kathy Newman), Faxi Falls (Kathleen Walter), Milky Way with Windmill (Helen Henry), Miner’s Cabin (Terry Dickerson), and Mono Lake Sunrise (Richard White).

PSA Individual Portrait Competition: Round 1 is now open and will close on November 25th, 2016. There are four rounds and four different entry levels. This competition is free for all PSA members. This activity is also free to PSA members.

PSA Annual Conference, San Antonio, TX: The PSA conference in San Antonio was a wonderful conference with many tours, photo walks, and programs The best part was being with old photo friends and meeting new photo friends from around the world. This included seeing Scott and Marilyn Shackelford who attend their first PSA conference. Both LPA members enjoyed the many activities of the conference.

It was fun seeing some of our LPA member’s images in some of the photography shows that were presented during the week.

Some of our LPA members that had images projected in the PSA International Exhibition were the following: Shirl Airov-Bieling, Nan Carder, Diana Edgel, and Scott Shackelford.

PSA Projected Image Division Individual Portrait Competition, Round 2 Results: Kathy Newman’s name is listed in the October PSA Journal on page 41, for receiving a Judge’s Choice with her image The Covering.

PSA Pictorial Print Division (PPD) Print of the Year Winner: Nan Carder’s name is listed in the October PSA Journal for winning the PPD Small Monochrome Print of the Year with her print Chimpanzees 6544 on page 42.

PSA Chapters’ Showcase:  The Southern California Roundup Chapter entered this year’s Chapter Showcase. The Chapter was second runner up. LPA members with images selected for the showcase were the following: Illulissat in the Midnight Sun (Chris Wilkins), Milky Way with Windmill (Helen Henry), and Yosemite Tunnel View 6366 (Nan Carder).

PSA International Exhibitions:

Oklahoma International Exhibition: Shirl Airov-Bieling and Nan Carder participated in this years' Oklahoma International Exhibition. They both received acceptances.

 PSA Division Stars: Both Shirl Airov-Bieling and Scott Shackelford received their first Projected Image Division Star I. Their names are listed in the October PSA Journal: Awards and Competitions - Star Ratings on page 37.

PSA Who’s Who:  Nan Carder, APSA, MPSA, received her certificate at the PSA conference for being “10th in the World”, Photojournalism Division (Prints), in the PSA “Who’s Who in Photography” for 2014.

All Lancaster Photography Association members received acceptances. PSA PID Creative Interclub (Round 3): Results and congratulations for the winners of the last round of the Projected Image Division Creative Interclub: Honorable Mention for Gal Shooting Blown Away (Shirl Airov-Bieling), Honorable Mention for Pontiac Style 2793 (Pam Vick), Award and Best of Show for Sandhill 5451 (Nan Carder), and Award for Wisteria Girl (Kathy Newman).

PSA Projected Image Division Individual Portrait Competition: Congratulations Kathy Carson Newman! Results from the Projected Image Division (PID) Individual Portrait competition have been sent to the participants, and Kathy received a Judge’s Choice with her image The Covering. The Individual Portrait has three competitions yearly, and entries for Round 3 will close July 11, 2016. This competition is free to all PSA members. Again, congratulations Kathy.

PSA Membership Milestones: Congratulations to the Lancaster Photography Association, 15 year Membership Milestone certificate at the recent Southern California Council of Camera Club (S4C) awards banquet. PSA awards certificates to PSA members when a membership milestone has been reached in PSA.

Christine Wilkins , the Photographic Society of America (PSA) Membership Milestone Director presented the Membership Milestone certificates to S4C-member clubs and S4C at the banquet.

Douglas P. Wade attended the event and received the certificate for the Lancaster Photography Club’s Membership Milestone for 15 years of continuous membership in PSA. LPA President Doug Wade received the certificate. Congratulations LPA!

PSA Website Contest: Doug Wade is in the process of judging the PSA Website Contest - small clubs. Thank you for your service.

PSA International Exhibitions:

Pacific-Atlantic International Exhibition: Shirl Airov Bieling Scott Shackelford, and Nan Carder received multiple acceptances in the recent Pacific-Atlantic International Exhibition (including Greece, Singapore, US). They received acceptances in Open Monochrome, Nature, Open Color, and Travel.

PSA Annual Conference, San Antonio, TX: In 2016, the PSA conference will be held in San Antonio, Texas from September 10-17. The conference hotel is the Wyndham, San Antonio Riverwalk. There are exciting photo tours, workshops, programs, featured speakers, and social activities. Tours will include the following:

An all day tour to the historic San Antonio missions will be offered as well as early morning and late day photo tours of the missions. There will also be an all day tour to the Texas Hill Country that will include a stop at the LBJ Ranch. In addition, there will be a River Barge tour, a River Barge Dinner tour, a tour of the San Antonio Botanical Gardens and Japanese Tea Garden, a King William District tour, a Double Decker Bus tour and

Chris Smith (Out of Chicago Photography) will be conducting evening walking tours of the San Antonio area.

PSA Youth Photography Showcase: This year five local high schools are participating in the PSA Youth Photography Showcase, including Highland High School, Knight High School, Palmdale High School, Quartz Hill High School, and Virtual Academy. There were some wonderful entries as usual. Good luck to our local high school youth.

PSA International Exhibitions:

Ocean State International Exhibition: Results have been sent to LPA’s participants in this exhibition which included: Shirl Airov-Bieling, Nan Carder, Darren Cole, Diana Edgel, Helen Henry, Holly Peskin, Scott Shackelford, Chris and David Wilkins. This year 24 PSA-member clubs participated. The Gateway Camera Club won the club competition with 296 points, and the Greater Lynn Photographic Society had the greatest number of entrants (43). Only the six top scoring members scores from each club that entered were counted. LPA ended up in 11th place with 262 points. Some of the images submitted are included in this issue of the LPA Newsletter.

San Joaquin Valley International Exhibition: Shirl Airov-Bieling, Nan Carder, and Darren Cole entered the San Joaquin Valley International Exhibition. All three LPA members had acceptances, and Darren won a Chairman’s Choice medal in nature with his image “Milky Way Over Mountain”. Congratulations Darren.

PSA Projected Image Division Individual Portrait Competition: The Individual Portrait Competition is an annual competition organized by the Projected Image Division (PID).

The competition is open to Individual Members of The Photographic Society of America (PSA), and is free of charge.

The competition will have three Rounds:

  • Round 2 closes May 9

PID Individual Creative Contest: Helen Henry received a Judges Choice for her image “A Single Drop” and an Honorable Mention with “Horses in Aspen” in the second round of the PID Individual Creative Contest. Entries for the last round will close on April 20, 2016.

PSA International Exhibitions:

Coachella Valley International Exhibition: All LPA members entering the Coachella Valley International Exhibition received acceptances, and Chris Wilkins won a Silver Medal for her image “Illulissat in the Midnight Sun”. LPA members entering the exhibition are the following: Shirl Airov-Bieling, Nan Carder, Diana Edgel, Scott Shackelford, Chris and David Wilkins.

Ocean State International Exhibition: The Lancaster Photography Association members participating in this year’s competition are the following: Shirl Airov-Bieling, Nan Carder, Darren Cole, Diana Edgel, Helen Henry, Holly Peskin, Scott Shackelford, Chris and David Wilkins. Results are in the process of being sent to the participants. Club results will be sent next week.

San Joaquin Valley International Exhibition:  Shirl Airov-Bieling, Nan Carder, and Darren Cole entered the San Joaquin Valley International Exhibition. All three LPA members had acceptances, and Darren won a Chairman’s Choice medal in nature with his image “Milky Way Over Mountain”. Congratulations Darren.

PSA Membership Milestone: The Lancaster Photography Association has been a PSA member since 1998. LPA will receive recognition for being a PSA member for fifteen years at this year’s S4C Banquet.
