Discusson Group Notes September 26, 2010

It's been a while since I posted any notes for the Friday Night Discussion Group (FNDG). We're still getting good attendance with occasional new people stopping by. We've talked about competitions, books and magazines, printers and cameras, HDR and luminosity masking, website creation and online photo sharing, and many other photography related topics.
We've discussed techniques such as the street photographer who used a whistle to get people to turn toward him so he could get their faces and a woman who used her looks to get men to stare in the right direction.
I found a photo book on Forest Lawn cemeteries and we talked about making a field trip to one of them. We've also talked about trips to L.A. to do street photography and a natural arch in Last Chance Canyon north of Mojave.
But the most current news is that King Photo Supply (which most of us shorten to 'King's) has remodeled and now includes an internet cafe (Blvd Today Cafe) and art gallery (Blvd Art) as well as most of their usual photographic supply inventory. The internet cafe has free wi-fi, $1 gourmet coffee, tea, and hot chocolate, tables on sidewalk and a lounge area inside. They will soon include sandwiches, bagels, and other local foods. The art gallery is already showing paintings and photos with a Featured Artist room, currently showing photos by Liz Breault. It will eventually include sculptures, post cards, bead work, and more. Plus their hours have been extended to 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday thru Thursday and 8 a.m to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
On October 8, a week from this coming Friday, the FNDG will be meeting at King's instead of Denny's as a trial run. Besides whatever foods Blvd Today Cafe has available at that time we figure we can order sandwiches from Brooklyn Deli (across the street), order in a pizza, or something else creative. Depending on how it goes we will decide if and when we will make it our permanent hangout. In any case we'll try to keep everyone posted on our whereabouts.
If you can, please join us this coming Friday evening at Denny's at the corner of Ave K and 20th West. We begin about 6:30 PM and usually go to at least 8:30 PM. You can drop by at anytime and stay for as long as you like (you don't even have to buy anything). Denny's has graciously provided us a section to ourselves and the service is great.
The following Friday, October 8, we will be at King Photo Supply on Lancaster Blvd near Fern. After that we'll try to keep everyone posted as to where, but when won't change.
All photography related subjects are fair game and there's never a planned agenda. You can bring in your questions, your stories, your equipment, your photos (paper or digital), or even just yourself to sit, listen, and/or talk.
You are welcome to visit the LPA forum and leave your comments......
