PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY OF AMERICA (PSA) REPORT FOR JULY 2017

PSA Annual Conference, Pittsburg, PA: The 2017 conference will be held at the Pittsburgh Marriott City Center on October 8th - October 14th, 2017.  Registration is remains open. We are hoping for fall colors. Some tours have filled up. There will be Portrait, Close-Up, and Model Workshops.  The Model Workshops will be given by Doug Hansgate. Other conference workshops include a Portrait Workshop, Close-up/Macro Workshop, and Portfolio Distinctions Advisory Workshop.

Some of the main speakers include Canon’s Explorer of Light, Adam Jones; professional artist Rob Knight speaking about “Making the Most of your Next Photo Workshop”; Nature and wildlife photographer Joe McDonald; architecture photographer Frank T. Smith; and in-house lawyer Nancy Wolff who will discuss issues of copyright, trademark, and information about model releases.

Projected Image Division Creative Interclub (Round 2): The results of the Second Round of the Photographic Society of America’s Projected Image Division Creative Interclub competition have been announced. Receiving awards were the following: Terry Dickerson with ‘Old Abandoned Mine’; Kathy Newman with ‘Ephemeral 1’; and Nan Carder, APSA, MPSA, with ‘Egret and Foxtail’.

The Lancaster Photography Association tied for second place. Other Lancaster Photography Association members competing were the following: Shirl Airov-Bieling, Helen Henry, and Pam Vick.

Projected Image Division Creative Interclub (Round 3): Congratulations Kathy Newman for receiving an award with ‘Steampunk Dreams’. Other members competing were the following: Nan Carder, APSA, MPSA, ‘Egret 7540’, Terry Dickerson ‘Where Fairies Come From’, Bill Sutton ‘A Strange Place’, Pam Vick ‘California Highway’, and Robert Christman ‘Fishes and Roses’.

PSA Photojournalism Division Interclub (Round 4): Congratulations Doug Wade! Doug received 1st place PJ Human Interest with Little Ladies Dancing, Bruce Cable (Blue Angels Mirror Image) received a HM in PJ General. Other LPA members participating were the following: Nan Carder (Girl on a Swing), Kathy Newman (Caitlyn), Christine Wilkins (Off the Ground), and David Wilkins (Thunderbirds 5 and 6).

PSA Photo Travel Division Interclub Competition (Round 3): There were no Awards or HMs in Round 3.

PSA International Exhibitions:

 

Detroit Digital International Salon: Terry Dickerson received an Honorable Mention with ‘Morning’s Light’ and an acceptance with ‘Moons Glory’. Terry also received five more acceptances in the Monte International.

 

Photo Circuit (Montenegro): Terry Dickerson received four acceptances with ‘Moon’s Glory’ and one acceptance with ‘Days End’.

 

GASO Circuit:  Shirl Airov-Bieling received 35 acceptances in the 2017 GASO Circuit including two (2) Honorable Mentions with ‘Bull Riding’ and ‘Three Pink Jellyfish’. Terry Dickerson received 18 acceptances including five (5) Honorable Mentions with ‘Sea Moon’, ‘Pushing the Envelope’ (2), ‘Moon’s Glory’ and ‘Miner’s Cabin’.

PSA Youth Showcase: Congratulations Amanda Aylor for receiving a first place in the 2017 PSA Youth Showcase with her image ‘Welcome Antelope Valley’. Her image was entered in the Digital Scapes category. Amanda will receive a $175 award, and will have her image printed in the PSA Journal. The Youth Showcase is open to all students worldwide, ages 14 through 19, and attending high school. Amanda had four of her images/prints submitted to the PSA Youth Showcase this year. In digital, “Welcome Antelope Valley’ (Landscapes) and ‘Curiosity’ (PJ). For prints, ‘Pensive’ was entered in People or Animals, and ‘Pure Steel’ was entered in Monochrome which received an acceptance. ‘Pure Steel’ will be on display at the annual conference in the print gallery.

PSA Individual Creative: Results are now available for the Projected Image Division (PID) Individual Creative Competition. Congratulations Kathy Newman for receiving two Honorable Mentions in Skill Level A with her images Freed Genie and Steampunk Daydreams. Terry Dickerson received an Honorable Mention with Return of the Triffids.

PSA So-Cal Roundup Chapter: The PSA So-Cal Chapter event in Camarillo and Ventura was a success. Members from the Lancaster Photography Association attending the event were the following: Nan Carder, Fran Marroquin, Kathy Newman, Doug Wade, David and Chris Wilkins. Our LPA members signed up for the Walk-Abouts which were available to PSA members at no cost. Congratulations Doug Wade on being appointed as a Chapter Officer. PSA International Exhibitions:

Coachella Valley Desert Camera Club International Exhibition:
The Coachella Valley Desert Camera Club (CVDCC) International Exhibition final catalogs have been posted. Terry Dickerson had a great exhibition. Terry won a CVDCC Gold Medal (Days End) and an Honorable Mention (Morning’s Light) in the Projected Image Division Color Theme (Landscape), and Judge’s Choice in PID Monochrome Theme (Mechanically Powered Transportation), along with five other acceptances. Terry also received five more acceptances in the Monte International Photo Circuit 2017- Kotor with Moon’s Glory and Days End. Congratulations Terry.

PSA Projected Image Division Interclub Competition (Round 2):  There were no Awards or HMs for Round 2.

Entries for Round 3 were the following: Clearing at Valley View (Chris Wilkins), Hair Day (Darren Cole), Hannah at Disney Hall (Doug Wade), Icy Dream (Shane Walter), Naples Pier Storm (David Wilkins), and The Flamingo (Nan Carder).

The Grand Canyon Circuit had three LPA members competing.  Shirl Airov-Bieling, Nan Carder, and Scott Shackelford competed and had multiple acceptances. Shirl received an Honorable Mention for her image One Egret in Nature Wildlife.

Nan Carder judged the Grand Canyon Circuit Exhibition’s Projected Image class (two sections) for the Photography West Salon, and she also judged the Nature class (two sections) for the Grand Photos Salon.

Coachella Valley Desert Camera Club International Exhibition:
The Coachella Valley Desert Camera Club (CVDCC) International Exhibition entries will remain open until March 10, 2017.

PSA Journal January: Nan Carder’s image Chimpanzees 6544 Mono was on the cover of the January PSA Journal. This image was the winner of the Pictorial Print Division Small Monochrome Print of the Year, and Nan received an award at the 2016 PSA conference in San Antonio, TX.

PSA Journal:

Scott Shackelford was recognized as being the new Photojournalism Division Interclub Competition Chairman. He is doing a great job. (page 43)

PSA PID Individual Creative Competition (Round 1): Congratulations Kathy Newman for receiving a second Place in Round One of the PSA PID Individual Competition, Group A for her image “Branching Out”.

PSA Membership Milestone: Sue Craft has reached her ten-year PSA Membership Milestone. She was presented her certificate at the December LPA meeting. Douglas Wade, Pat and Dale Ware received their five-year Membership Milestone in PSA Congratulations to Sue, Doug, Dale, and Pat!

PSA International Exhibitions:

DIGA (The Georgia Circuits) Congratulations go to Scott Shackelford who received 41 Acceptances, seven (7) HMs, and one (1) Medal at the DIGA International Exhibition. 

The Coachella Valley Desert Camera Club (CVDCC) International Exhibition entries will remain open until March 10, 2017.

PSA News

PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY OF AMERICA (PSA) REPORT FOR DECEMBER 2016

PSA Annual Conference, Pittsburg, PA: The 2017 conference will be held at the Pittsburgh Marriott City Center on October 8th - October 14th, 2017.  Registration will begin April 17, 2017.

PSA Nature Division Interclub Competition (Round 1): Entries due January 1, 2017.

PSA Projected Image Division Interclub Competition (Round 1): There were no Awards or HMs.

PSA Photojournalism Division Interclub (Round 1): Entries for the PSA Photojournalism Division Interclub competition were the following: Big Hit (Darren Cole), Boots High (Dwight Franke), Face Splat (Bruce Cable), Four Young Monks (Richard Wood), Homeless Lady City Hall (Douglas Wade), and Its for Me (Tom Van Langenhoven).

PSA Photo Travel Division Interclub Competition Results (Round 1): The Lancaster Photography Association was in fourth place of 20 club entries after the first round. Christine Wilkins received an Honorable Mention for her image Clearing at Valley View. There were 112 images entered.

Shirl Airov-Bieling, Helen Henry, and Nan Carder judged the PSA Photo Travel Interclub Group A (126 images) Round 1 images. Shirl and Helen enjoyed the judging.

PSA Membership Milestone: Sue Craft has reached her ten-year PSA Membership Milestone. She will be presented her certificate at one of the LPA meetings. Congratulations Sue!

A PSA Thank-You to Chris Wilkins: PSA received a donation from PSA member H.W. Ping Chan marked in the honor of Christine Wilkins and Kathi Beam from PSA Headquarters for their hard work with the Membership Milestone Program.

Grand Canyon Circuit: Congratulations Scott Shackelford, who had multiple acceptances in the Grand Canyon Circuit and received his first medal (Bronze) for 20-Mule Team Silhouette-M. Also receiving acceptances were Shirl Airov-Bieling and Nan Carder.
