November Field Trip - Walt Disney Concert Hall

November 15, 2010 - Led by David and Christine Wilkins

The Frank Gehry Designed Walt Disney Concert Hall (WDCH) in Los Angeles is one of the great photo destinations in the US.  With its curves and lack of right angles, distortion caused by a wide-angle lens is never noticed.  One can pick a piece of the building to shoot or go for the whole thing.  There is enough glass to make good reflections.  All four sides are different which create more opportunities.  There are even some water fountains in the next block.

Dave Anderson and I scouted WDCH back in 2008 and I wanted to go back for another photo session.  There are no concerts on Mondays so they are good days to have the place to yourself.  Parking is available under the hall. The WDCH is at 111 South Grand.  The website is .

We plan on leaving Lancaster about 2 PM so we can be at the hall by 3:30 PM.  This will give some time to explore the building and choose a spot for a sunset shot.  Sunset is around 4:45 PM since we will be back to standard time.  After a bit of dinner we can look for night shots around the area and then head back home.

Tripods cannot be used inside the building, but outside they can.  Photographs of the inside of the auditorium are not allowed.
