The Lancaster Photography Association (LPA) was formed in 1966 after a few volunteers at the local AV Fair photography exhibit decided they should start a photography club. Initially the club was just about creating learning opportunities on all things photography related , not just for its members but also for the community. Since then has expanded its mission because the members felt it wasn’t enough to just learn about photography. The LPA’s membership has always believed it is important to do something good with photography, to give back in some way, because by helping others we also learn. The current mission of the LPA is to promote the art and science of photography; and to provide education, information, inspiration and opportunity for all persons interested in photography; and to support philanthropic endeavors in the community through photography.

The largest philanthropic endeavor the organization undertakes each year is the coordination of the photography exhibition for the Antelope Valley Fair. Another recent philanthropic endeavor the LPA has undertaken is the providing of a year long photographic record of the local Prime Desert Woodland Preserve which is run by the Lancaster City Parks and Recreation Department. The LPA recently partnered with a teen center with Edwards Air Force Base to assist with their teen photography camp. The LPA has participated in the local Poppy Festival since 1995. Whatever the next philanthropic endeavor will be for the LPA is unknown. What is known is that there will be plenty of others in the future.
