PSA Report for September, 2012

PSA News

This year, Helen Henry, Jerry Henry, Bill Sutton, Leslie Sutton, and I will attend the PSA Annual Conference in San Francisco. Lancaster Photography Association had three members’ images in the PSA Council Challenge Monochrome Section: Arliss Dawson, Helen Henry and Nan Carder. We are looking forward to a great week in San Francisco.

Helen Henry received a first place in the Photojournalism Quarterly Competition for the Home Place (http://johnlarson.4t.com/PSA_PJ_Quarterly/index.htm). The competition is free to all PSA members. Entries for the next PSA PJ Quarterly competition are due September 9, 2012. Session 3 is due October 2012. Any PSA member may compete, and it is free.

Helen Henry and Nan Carder made the PSA Who’s Who lists for 2011 in multiple divisions. The hard copy should be available in October. The list has been in existence since 1942. A PSA member must enter at least ten PSA International Exhibitions with acceptances, and be in the top 5% of all of the possible acceptances in PSA recognized judging’s. Hopefully, more of our members will be listed next year. http://www.psa-photo.org/recognition/recognition-of-photography/whos-who/who-s-who-in-photography-list

This year’s goals for the Lancaster Photography Association will be the following:

  • PSA Interclub Competitions to include the Projected Imaging Division, the Nature Division, Projected Imaging Creative Division, and Photojournalism Division
  • PSA Youth Photography Showcase
  • Newsletter Contest
  • Web Site Contest

The first Nature Interclub competition is due by October 15th.

Check out the PSA Website at http://www.psa-photo.org/. If anyone has not seen this month’s PSA Journal, and they are a PSA member, a copy of the journal can be found in the MyPSA area. Helen’s picture “A Bleeding Heart Vortex” is also in the September journal and there is a very nice article on the PSA Youth Photography Showcase. Two of our local high school students are featured in the article- Adrian Barrera (Quartz Hill High School) and Cassie Widdison (Pete Knight High School) who both won the Best of Show in both Digital Images and Prints. Our local high school teachers did an excellent job working with these students and getting these images to LPA so that they could be entered. All of the credit goes to these students and their instructors. These students will also be featured at the PSA Conference. The students won a $350 cash award. The article can be found at this web site: http://www.psa-photo.org/files/9713/4677/2329/YOUTH-SHOWCASE-2012.pdf.
