S4C Report - January 2013

S4C News

The fourth S4C Competition will be held on January 12th by remote judging and the entries submitted were: A- Sharna Lee, Lee Garner, Tina Crowe, and  Fran Marroquin. AA- Tylene Trout, Dale Ware, Richard Wood and Sue Craft.   Good Luck to these photographers. I will try to announce the winners at the General meeting if I receive them in time. The fifth competition will open on Jan 19th and close on Feb 2nd. The judging will take place on Feb 9th. The February competition will be a physical judging meeting. I would like to encourage LPA members to attend this competition and make it a LPA field trip as we have done in the past. We can meet at the West Avenue S Park and Ride (434 West Avenue S  in Palmdale) and leave at 6:30am for the 90 mile drive. I plan on taking 138 but if we have bad weather we will change that to the 14 and I have planned our time accordingly. Please sign up and indicate if you'd like to caravan, and how many people can ride with you. Remember…February is our print competition month I have been talking about for the past couple of months and we would like to get our members to participate in this competition. The print rules are on the S4C web site http://www.pcms-photo.org/s4c_entrants_homepage.html . Even if you can’t participate in the fieldtrip, I can hand carry your prints for you, just let me know.

“The Southern California Council of Camera Clubs bestows honors on individuals who qualify through active participation in a wide variety of photographic and S4C-related activities. The purpose of the honors is to encourage and acknowledge service to S4C and to member clubs. Honors are on the basis of points an applicant has earned in accordance with the point schedule set in out below. Applications must be received by the Honors Committee not later than April 1, each year. It is urged that applications be submitted earlier than this if possible.” The procedures and application can be found at: http://www.s4c-photo.org/honors/honors.html (info taken from S4C website). If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

LPA members, please send me any images you would like considered for the LPA Interclub competitions. Please send all images to bonniejmatthews@hotmail.com and call Bonnie if you have any questions.

by Bonnie J Matthews-Franke

Bonnie has been taking pictures since she was a little girl, but she didn't get into digital photography until about 2009, just before she joined the club.

Matthews-Franke finds the club to be very beneficial to her. The interaction with other members, being able to ask questions, the workshops and the knowledge that I take away from the club is phenomenal.

She believes the meetings, workshops and field trips are very beneficial, specially to the new members. Her favorites were the Fall Color Trips; Mono Lake Trips and the workshops were she had her camera and could play along.

She love landscapes. She just finished a vacation trip to Oregon where she photographed lighthouses, old barns and covered bridges. The older the structure the better Smile.
She also loves portraits, and shooting in her own studio.

Matthews-Franke has more than a few Canon's, a Canon 7D, a Canon 5D MKII and a few more with a variety of lenses and accessories. Her favorite lens is a 28-135mm ,70-200mm. & 100mm.

Matthews-Franke was our secretary of the club for a few years and helped made many changes to help us grow.
