General Meeting & Holiday Party: December 17, 2013

Douglas Wade opened the evening’s annual Holiday Dinner gathering with nearly 45 people in attendance.

Once again, with the volunteer help and organization of many who arrived early, the Senior Center room came alive with tables lined in candy cane colored red & white covers, topped with lovely winter pine greenery and pine cones.

Dinner this year was Mexican food catered by Green Burrito which included the likes of all the fixings for tacos with corn chips too. The dessert table this year was potluck, and filled with all sorts of homemade and store bought goodies. All of the cakes, bars, cookies, fudge, etc were attracting people like bees to honey! Coffee, tea, and bottled waters were also available. Everything was super delicious, and we were all happy to sit and enjoy our meals with our fellow LPA members.

Before we actually began to eat, Dale Ware read an “Inspiration”, a moment to reflect, originated by Joanne Stolte in 2009.   It was however, customized a bit for the  LPA.  It was so meaningful, and the jist of it was basically reflecting on all that we do, and all that we have. Thank you so very much Joanne and Dale!

Donations from our members for our annual fundraiser for Friends of the Center (FOTC) lined the side tables, with bags that people could place purchased raffle tickets into in hopes they could win what they liked. 100% of the proceeds collected (nearly $280) will be donated to FOTC. The FOTC takes care of the Senior Center needs that LA County cannot fulfill, and all money donated stays at that local center.

Thanks to everyone for your generous donations!

Promptly after dinner, we turned out the lights to enjoy a slide show of all the LPA year’s events and field trips. There were roughly 60 images, 5 per person, and each person was given the microphone to speak about their images. Displayed were shots from Bosque del Apache, Mono Lake & Bishop, the Moorpark reenactment, The “Boo-LVD”, Poppy Festival, and other events & trips in between. We all agreed that this was a nice thing to do at the Holiday Party!

A giant thank you to ALL those who made donations to the raffle, brought food, desserts, serving ware etc, decorated the tables and room, played holiday music, displayed the slide show images, photographed the party, and helped with clean up. Your donation of $5 per person enabled us to have  our yummy meal, and this year was yet again another terrific party ! Again, THANK YOU to all! A special THANK YOU to Douglas Wade and Sue Craft for coordinating all of the evenings festivities, and to Dennis Lust for coming early and bringing and preparing the table greenery decorations.
