PSA Report for June 2015

PSA Annual Conference, West Yellowstone: Registration remains open for the PSA Annual Conference will be held in West Yellowstone, Montana from September 27 to October 3, 2015. For more information, please go to the following webpages.
Projected Image Division (Fourth/Final Round): The results of the fourth and final round of the Photographic Society of America’s (PSA) Projected Image Division Group B have been sent to all of the participating clubs.
Congratulations go to Chris Wilkins who won Best of Show with her image “Peggy’s Cove 2014”. Congratulations also goes to Holly Peskin for winning an Award with “Great Egret Nesting” and Nan Carder, EPSA, for winning an Honorable Mention with “Dandelion 0359”. Other Lancaster Photography Association (LPA) members competing were Sharna Lee with “Tracy Fant”, Kathy Newman with “Paisley Self Portrait”, and Dale Ware with “Palouse Falls”.
The scores in this round were high enough to give LPA first place in the last round. The Sun City Texas Photography Club judged this round. There were 20 clubs participating in this round, and there were 120 images judged.
The Lancaster Photography Association scores were good enough to give LPA second place in the four rounds for the 2014 to 2015 competition year. Clubs participating were from Belgium, Canada, England, and the USA. Clubs participating from the USA were from California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Montana, New Jersey, Ohio, Oregon, Washington, and Wisconsin.

Projected Image Division Creative: Unofficially, the Lancaster Photography Association was third in the Projected Image Division Creative final standings for the 2014-2015 competition year. Nine clubs participated in Group A.
PSA Nature Division Interclub: The Lancaster Photography Association tied for 10th place in Group A for the 2014-2015 competition season. There were 23 clubs that participated.
PSA Photojournalism Interclub (Fourth Round): Results are pending.
PSA Photo Travel Division Interclub Judging: Lancaster Photography Association judged the third/final PSA Photo Travel Interclub Group A competition. Our judges Helen Henry, DFS4C, Rock Myers, and Dale Ware, AS4C all did a wonderful job judging the last competition of the year. All three of our judges have competed in PSA International Exhibitions and have taken the PSA Image Analysis course offered by PSA.
PSA Photo Travel Interclub (Third/Final Round): Results have been sent to the participating PSA-member clubs for the third and final round of the PSA Photo Travel Division Interclub. Although there were no awards or HMs given to any of the Lancaster Photography Association’s (LPA) entrants for this round, LPA placed third. The scores were high enough to give the Lancaster Photography Association a third place finish for the year-end standings. Twenty-two PSA-member clubs participated in Group B this year. Participating in the final round were the following: Nan Carder, EPSA, Fran Marroquin, Dale Ware, Chris Wilkins, David Wilkins and Richard Wood.

There is a new PSA Photo Travel definition for the 2015-2016. If anyone has images that would qualify for the PSA Photo Travel interclub competition, please contact Nan Carder, EPSA.

New Definition: A Photo Travel image expresses the characteristic features or culture of a land as they are found naturally. There are no geographic limitations. Images from events or activities arranged specifically for photography, or of subjects directed or hired for photography are not appropriate. Close up pictures of people or objects must include features that provide information about the environment. Techniques that add, relocate, replace or remove any element of the original image, except by cropping, are not permitted. The only allowable adjustments are removal of dust or digital noise, restoration of the appearance of the original scene, and complete conversion to grey-scale monochrome. Other derivations, including infrared, are not permitted. All allowed adjustments must appear natural.
PSA Image Analysis Course: Scott Shackelford has completed the PSA Image Analysis Course. He joins the following LPA members who have also taken the course: Nan Carder, EPSA, Arliss Dawson, Helen Henry, Sue Liberto, Bonnie Matthews, Rock Myers, Scott Shackelford, Bill Sutton, Dale Ware, Pat Ware, and David Wilkins.
S4C: Congratulations David Wilkins! David is the new Southern California Council of Camera Club’s president as of June 6, 2015.

Southern California Council of Camera Clubs (S4C) International Exhibition 2015
Entries are now open for the S4C International Exhibition. This exhibition has been recognized by the Photographic Society of America and licensed by the United Photographers International.
This year again, S4C will offer 15 Sections across five PSA divisions.
PID Color: General (Open) and Theme (Sunrise or Sunset)
PID Monochrome: General (Open) and Theme (Shadow or Shadows)
Nature: General (Open) and Wildlife
Photo Travel: General (Open) and Theme (Making Handcrafts)
Photojournalism: General (Open) and Theme (Human Interest)
Print: Small Color General (Open) and Theme (Creative)
Small Mono General (Open) and Theme (Olden Times)
The closing date will be July 19, 2015. Print judging will be July 25, 2015 and the Digital Medal Round judging will be August 2, 2015.
These Lancaster Photography Association members participated in the 2014 S4C International Exhibition: Nan Carder, EPSA, Arliss Dawson, Diana Edgel, Helen Henry, Bonnie Matthews, Rock Myers, Scott Shackelford, Bill Sutton, Dale Ware, Pat Ware, Chris Wilkins, and David Wilkins.
Helen Henry won the Judge’s Choice medal with one of her Photojournalism Human Interest images. Nan Carder, EPSA, Bill Sutton, Dale Ware, and David Wilkins all won some Honorable Mentions.
LPA members judging this year for the S4C International Exhibition will be Nan Carder, EPSA, DFS4C (Prints and Photojournalism) and David Wilkins (Photo Travel). Also judging will be George “Hutch” Hutchinson (Monochrome) and Brent Paull (Nature).

Photographic Society of America (PSA) Youth Photography Showcase
The Lancaster Photography Association sponsored high school aged youth for the 2015 Youth Photography Showcase. This year there were four Antelope Valley High School District schools that had youth participating.
Schools participating this year were Highland High School (Christine Van Allen), Pete Knight High School (Marcy Watton), Quartz Hill High School (Kiley Craft), and Virtual Academy (Erin Jones).
There were 1097 entries. There were 597 prints and 530 projected images. This year the judging was held in Minnesota. Three members from the North Metro Camera Club, which is in the Twin Cities area, judged the competition. The images and prints will be shown at the PSA annual conference in Yellowstone in September.
