Desert Wildflower and Scenic Field Trip to Red Rock Canyon, Saturday, March 18, 2017

The LPA will host a field trip to Red Rock Canyon on March 18 to photograph wildflowers and the scenic views.  As long-time residents know it's impossible to predict wildflower blooms in the Mojave desert.  That said, the weather so far looks promising and mid-late March is historically a good time for flowers and mild weather. Besides the flowers Red Rock Canyon is a place of scenic beauty with its stands of Joshua Trees, internationally recognizable geology, canyons, and more.

Red Rock Canyon is about 52 miles north of Lancaster and 26 miles north of Mojave on Hwy 14 (AV Freeway).  For those interested there will be a breakfast at Denny's in Mojave at 7:30 am.  At 9:30 everyone is asked to gather for a group photo at the large parking lot in Red Rock Canyon on the east side of Hwy 14, across from the entrance to the Visitor's Center.

For newcomers, our members typically move around individually or in small groups photographing whatever is of interest to them.  There are currently no formal classes scheduled but there are usually a number of members who are willing to mentor others in the various photographic arts.  Some photographers linger for hours while others move on to other parts of the park and leave whenever they like. These are very informal events.

Our point of contact is Christine Wilkins with Glenn Olson as the alternate.
