Competition, January 2008
Competition nights are always fun! Over 57 people were present, and there were many entries, all entering under the theme of Action/Motion. Entries consisted of 29 print, 10 slides, and 37 digital images. Our judge, Todd Neibling, from the Lancaster Museum & Art Gallery, gave a wonderful critique each and every entry.
Several guests were present, and one new guest already planned on becoming a member, came with her membership dues, and an entry for the competition on her first night and… won a 1st place ribbon! Congratulations to Sandra Ordway for her winning photo, “Tae Kwan Do”.
Brad Foss, member and photography instructor at Quartz Hill High, brought a couple of his photography students. One of them, Jackie, is being mentored by LPA member Fred Griggs. She was Fred’s competition chairperson assistant for the evening.
Sharon Martinez brought her son along to the meeting, and he was wishing that he could enter the competition. YES!!! Young people are encouraged to participate in LPA as well.
Kurtiss Humphrey’s daughter, Katelyn, entered the competition, and won a 1st place for “Mexican Dancers” and Honorable Mention!
Kathie Jung, and her son Sky, gave the invite to LPA members to come visit their farm/ranch, because they have lots of baby animals being born right now. skyjung@qnet.com
The theme for the March competition is ANIMALS. Get out there and take some pictures!
Quite a few members raised their hands to be on a committee, headed by John Shedrick, to analyze/pursue LPA’s involvement in bringing a digital competition to the AV Fair. If interested in helping out contact John (lpajs@sbcglobal.net).
Our next field trip is to Calico Ghost Town, led by Sue Craft, on February 16, during the Civil War Re-Enactment. More info on the web.
Wendy Ware, Dale & Pat’s daughter, was the winner of the 50/50 drawing, and went home with $44 in her pocket.
Our yummy refreshments for the evening were provided by Beth Goodno. LPA members love to eat, so please consider taking a turn in providing snacks for the evening. Up to $30 worth of snacks will be reimbursed by the LPA. Thank you to Keri Vondra for signing up for February. Please contact Beth (begoodno@adelphia.net) to choose a month.
Remember… the best way to learn and feel part of a group, is to participate, ask questions, and get involved. You will be rewarded 10X over.
