Discussion Group Notes June 6, 2008
Corrections from last week's notes:
- The art walk coming up on Sunday the 8th is not sponsored by the Lakes and Valley's Art Guild (LVAG) but rather by Suzie Richey and the owner of Schooner's. This art walk will take place at four locations on 15th West between K and J8, West side. You can start behind the High Desert Medical building.
- While not a correction but a clarification, the AV Fair is accepting "Entry Forms" through July 12th. The actual photographs don't have to be delivered to the fair until August 13. John Shedrick will be making a recommendation to have this clarified in next year's entry guide.
Tonight was a little slower, but enjoyable. We talked of many things, of cabbages and kings, or something like that. One topic was places to take photos.
Jerry suggested the Huck Finn Jubilee in Victorville (http://www.huckfinn.com/) June 13-15. There's music, competitions, and even a Huck Finn Photo Contest.
Vivien suggested Uno Lake, Palmdale, on Barrel Springs Road. It sounds like there's water, marsh, reeds, birds on sticks, and more.
As for the "Celebrate Downtown Lancaster" event (http://www.cityoflancasterca.org/Index.aspx?page=534) , no decision has been made by the club on this yet.
I plan to meet with the board this Tuesday to discuss it. Even if this doesn't develop into a club event it sounds like a great opportunity for individuals to take night pictures of a festive event.
The City of Lancaster Museum/Art Gallery (LMAG) is having an "Experimental Photography Exhibition" July 12 thru Aug 24. Exhibitors include LPA members Marilyn Dalrymple and Dean Webb. The reception will be July 12, noon to 4 pm with a special lecture at 2 pm. (http://www.cityoflancasterca.org/Index.aspx?page=67)
A few weeks back I wrote about discussion of a possible mentoring program and Jerry being our first volunteer. Tonight Jerry let me know that he had been helping Jo learn Photoshop Elements 6. This is a great idea that should be pursued.
We meet each Friday at Bianco's Cafe at the South end of the Lancaster Market Place, behind and across the street from Movies 12.
The core times are from 7 to 8 PM but there's typically someone there from 6:30 to at least 8:30.
We'll keep the light on for you. Glenn Olson, Coordinator and Moderator oglenn@earthlink.net
