General Meeting, February 2009

Meetings

We had 55 members and 1 visitor attend our February General meeting.

Our guest speaker tonight was Ted Dayton, President of the Santa Clarita Photography club.

We met Ted at the Home Town Buffet for an early dinner and a very interesting conversation. During the presentation Ted shared photos and talked about HDR (High Dynamic Range) Photography using Photomatix Pro from HDRsoft.com.

While Ted demonstrated the program, he presented many of the features with examples of photos and the effects that particular feature has on the photo. One I found to be very useful was the “Tone mapping tool and preview.

He not only explained what HDR is, but why you would want to do it on a particular photo and how you would then proceed. He showed us a few examples so we could see the difference between being subtle and completely over using the HDR process on a photo. Many great questions surfaced during the presentation, and Ted answered them all.

He made arrangements for our club to receive a 25% discount should any of us decide to purchase the software Photomatrix from HDRsoft.com and enter the discount code (LPA25). As a thank you to Ted, he was presented with an Honorary LPA Membership.

Terri Garner went over the changes in the By-Laws. The By-Laws committee consisted of Dean Webb, Terri Garner, John Shedrick and David Wilkins. They all did a lot of work for LPA and as a committee they presented the proposed changes to the general membership. The general membership will vote at the next general meeting on the proposed changes. A VERY BIG thank you to the By-Laws committee for their very hard work on behalf of the club.

by Bonnie J Matthews-Franke

Bonnie has been taking pictures since she was a little girl, but she didn't get into digital photography until about 2009, just before she joined the club.

Matthews-Franke finds the club to be very beneficial to her. The interaction with other members, being able to ask questions, the workshops and the knowledge that I take away from the club is phenomenal.

She believes the meetings, workshops and field trips are very beneficial, specially to the new members. Her favorites were the Fall Color Trips; Mono Lake Trips and the workshops were she had her camera and could play along.

She love landscapes. She just finished a vacation trip to Oregon where she photographed lighthouses, old barns and covered bridges. The older the structure the better Smile.
She also loves portraits, and shooting in her own studio.

Matthews-Franke has more than a few Canon's, a Canon 7D, a Canon 5D MKII and a few more with a variety of lenses and accessories. Her favorite lens is a 28-135mm ,70-200mm. & 100mm.

Matthews-Franke was our secretary of the club for a few years and helped made many changes to help us grow.
