Since we had some new people I passed around my portfolio and answered questions.
Jean has an Olympus D550 P&S which suits her just fine. She also has a Canon DSLR on a shelf. Besides photography she likes to paint, especially ocean scenes.
Doug likes scenery, animals, and sunsets. He had a Micromat when he was in Germany which he liked but it got stolen. He currently has an Olympus 500UZ 6 MP camera and is looking to get a new camera. George said he has a Nikon and has had several cameras over the years.
We talked about pixels, JPGs, Photoshop, and printers at length.
Terri said that the scrapbooking disk that comes with Photoshop Elements 8 from Costco is especially good because it teaches you layers.
George recommended the town of Darwin for taking photos because of it's old residents and old stuff. I Googled some images and one shows a sign saying "Darwin, Population 50 or So." According to Google Maps it's along Hwy 190 just before you enter Death Valley National Park and a few miles to the south.

George also likes taking photos of trains and goes to Mojave often. He told us about a place at the end of Lake Blvd in Pasadena with ruins, ponds, and an eerie look to it. I Google Mapped it and I believe he's talking about the North end where it meets the foothills.
Vivian recommended Saugus which has a train station and museum in Hart Park.
Terri told the story of her NYC trip. I never get tired of it because she always adds new stuff and keeps it interesting.
If you can, please join us each Friday evening at Denny's at the corner of Ave K and 20th West. We begin about 6:30 PM and usually go to at least 8:30 PM. You can drop by at anytime and stay for as long as you like (you don't even have to buy anything). Denny's has graciously provided us a section to ourselves and the service is great.
All photography related subjects are fair game and there's never a planned agenda. You can bring in your questions, your stories, your equipment, your photos (paper or digital), or even just yourself to sit, listen, and/or talk.
I would again like to extend a special invitation to both new members and the more expert members who would like to participate in these informal discussions.
