Discusson Group Notes December 4, 2009

This night we had our (un)usual seven.

Bonnie and Dwight told us all about their trip to Orlando, FL. Bonnie took 800 photos, but didn't bring any for us to see. Hopefully the next time she drops in she'll give us a slide show. They had no problems flying with their camera equipment.

I passed around my book on colors to Bill and Doug. Then I told of my trip to the Ridgecrest photo club.

Doug passed some of his photos around for us to see. He got a real good shot of a coyote at the Prime Desert Woodland Preserve. His Olympus camera on "Auto" did a good of catching the details even though the coyote was backlit by the sun.

Bill said that he saw a sign for Kodak film developing out on 60th and George in Rosamond.  No one knew anything about it and I haven't gone to check it out yet.

We talked about lost files and Bonnie told us that Sandisk has a program called "Rescue" that does a good job of recovering files.

Around the table we talked about the forum, the LPA "Gallery" (which seems difficult to use), and the web site in general. Arley has done a good job making the web site look nice. Bonnie uses the "Word Press" software as a web design tool.  She went on to describe her web site.

I brought up the idea of local field trips to get photos of graveyards and architecture.  Terri said that there's an area called "Clark Court" that has some interesting residential architecture. Together we came up with a list of possible local field trips:

• Red Rock Canyon in the daytime
• Blackbird Park in Palmdale
• Devil's Punchbowl
• Shea Castle
• Lancaster Architecture
  • Western Hotel
  • Lancaster Performing Arts Center
  • Cedar Street Gallery
  • Others
• Mojave
  • Trains
  • Planes
  • Automobiles
• Custom Car shows in the area (a popular place is the Shell station on Sierra Hwy)
• Ft Tejon

Doug said that he found a NASA site which includes interesting photos of Mono Lake and other interesting areas.

Bill said that he talked to someone who saw an Amtrak passenger train go through Mojave which sent us into a discussion of trains.

Doug suggested the Victorville Rt 66 museum and other things to see in that area.

If you can, please join us each Friday evening at Denny's at the corner of Ave K and 20th West. We begin about 6:30 PM and usually go to at least 8:30 PM. You can drop by at anytime and stay for as long as you like (you don't even have to buy anything). Denny's has graciously provided us a section to ourselves and the service is great.

All photography related subjects are fair game and there's never a planned agenda. You can bring in your questions, your stories, your equipment, your photos (paper or digital), or even just yourself to sit, listen, and/or talk.

I would again like to extend a special invitation to both new members and the more expert members who would like to participate in these informal discussions.
