Discussion Group Notes - Oct. 8, 2010

Discussion Group

As most of you already know, King Photo Supply (King's) has added the Blvd Cafe and Blvd Art into their office space.  This makes it a great place to hold our Friday Night Discussion Group meetings.  This went so well that we decided to make it permanent.

October the 8th was the night before the Streets of Lancaster race and the Blvd was filled with people, booths, and music.  Those of us who were hungry went across the street to the Brooklyn Deli for gourmet soup and sandwiches.  Later we wandered down the Blvd and found that there are several restaurants to choose from and, apparently, more coming so we'll have a variety to choose from, not to mention sack lunches and ordering in pizza.

The Blvd Cafe now has a variety of light foods to eat.  The Blvd Art's featured artist room is now complete and more art is being put of for sale.  Larry received the good news that one of his unframed photos (of a B-52) had sold for $100.  Stokely's plan is working.  A few blocks down the artists apartment building was having an art show in their foyer, including a sample ceramic corset and photos of more (they're actually nice looking).

As for topics of discussion we covered a few including an unofficial field trip to do street photography in downtown LA.  Four of us made the trip the next morning and had a blast.  I've seen a couple of Larry's photos and he's amazing, especially with his fisheye.  I plan to go through a sampling of mine this next Friday.  Everyone who's interested should join us.

If you can, please join us on any Friday evening at King Photo Supply at 749 West Lancaster Blvd, near Fern (please use the front door).  We begin our discussions about 6:30 PM and usually go to at least 8:30 PM. You can drop by at anytime and stay for as long as you like.  All photography related subjects are fair game and there's never a planned agenda. You can bring in your questions, your stories, your equipment, your photos (paper or digital), or even just yourself to sit, listen,  and/or talk.  While at King's you can also wander around checking out the art for sale or surf the internet via the free Wi-Fi, courtesy of the Blvd (internet) Cafe.

At this time I'd like to take the opportunity to thank Denny's staff for supporting our meetings these past two years.  We'll miss them.
