Black History Celebration, Feb 25, 2012

Events

Four members of the Lancaster Photography Association (Norma Boggs, Tom Van Langenhoven, Pam Vick, and Nan Carder) attended the Black History Celebration on February 25, 2012 at the AV Senior Center. Many of the attendees were dressed in beautiful colorful outfits.

Pam Vick said that the Black History Celebration, which was held at the Lancaster Senior Center, was a day of remembrance and tribute. This was presented by entertainers as poetry, song, and dance.

Awards were given to some of our Antelope Valley black history makers.

  • Mapple Smith received the Black Historical Committee Service Award for eight years of outstanding service to the Lancaster Senior Center.
  • Earline Richardson was honored for her contribution as a Black History Maker with a Certificate of Appreciation. She was also awarded a Certificate of Recognition for the 2012 Black Historical Society and Black History Program “Black Women in American History and Culture”.

The LPA photographers enjoyed taking pictures of many of the attendees.

The Friends of the Senior Center (FOTC) were overjoyed to have volunteer photographers there to photograph the event and provide images on a CD.
