MINI LESSON ABOUT S4C & CURRENT INFORMATION

INDIVIDUAL:

-LPA is a member of the Southern California Council of Camera Clubs (S4C) which also is a member of the Photographic Society of America (PSA). The Council consists of a number of photography clubs. The Council’s primary objective is to conduct photography competitions among member clubs and among individual members of those clubs.

-The Council has chosen to follow PSA guidelines in the conduct of these competitions.

-S4C competitions are held in October, November, December, January, February, March, and April, those months comprising the S4C Competition Year. Competitions are normally judged the second Saturdays of each of those months.

-Except for the Interclub Color Section of the Pictorial Division, all Section Competitions are entered by individuals.

-Each Section is headed by a Section Chair who is responsible for image intake and communication with entrants regarding eligibility of submissions and regarding results.

-The most current definitions can be found on the S4C Competition website at: http://www.pcms-photo.org/s4c_entrants_requirements.html

INTERCLUB:

-The S4C Pictorial/Color Division hosts one competition that is for S4C member clubs to enter rather than individuals: namely the Digital Interclub Section Competition. The Interclub competition includes the A, and AA Skill Levels.

-Standings Tables are maintained for clubs just as for individuals based on total aggregate points accumulated from the club entries. HMs and Awards, however, are attributed to the individual image makers.

END OF YEAR JUDGING:

-All images that have won an HM or an Award in any given Section Competition are automatically entered, following the last month of competition (April), into a Year End Judging organized by the Competition Chair. Judges are selected from among PSA member clubs that are not themselves members of S4C.

by Bonnie J Matthews-Franke

Bonnie has been taking pictures since she was a little girl, but she didn't get into digital photography until about four years ago, just before she joined the club.

Matthews finds the club to be very beneficial to her. The interaction with other members, being able to ask questions, the workshops and the knowledge that I take away from the club is phenomenal.

She is very active, attending most of the workshops and field trips. She has missed only a few workshops the last few years and has attended about 70% of the field trips. The fall color trip is one shes really looking forward to.

When asked what kind of photography she prefers, she said landscapes. She just finished a vacation trip to Oregon where she photographed lighthouses, old barns and covered bridges. I really like old structures, she said. She now loves portraits and has her own studio.

Matthews has a Canon 5D MKII and a variety of lenses and accessories. Her favorite lens is a 28-135mm ,70-200mm. & 100mm.

Matthews is our new secretary of the club and has made many changes to help us grow. One improvement she hopes to make, however, is to archive the meeting notes she takes so new members can have access to them online.

I'm really proud that the club is growing like it is, and that the workshops are so great.
