AV Senior Center Winter Ball, Dec 12 2014

On Friday, December 12, 2014, the Lancaster Photography Association provided photography for the Winter Ball at the AV Senior Center.  The participating photographers were: Rock Myers, Sue Craft, Norma Boggs, Marilyn Peake and Bill Peake.  Lancaster Honda sponsored the event and donated $100 toward photography, which provided a nice boost to LPA’s funds.  The images will be placed on CDs for the AV Senior Center and they in turn will print out copies for the participants.

LPA sponsored a booth where attendees had their pictures taken with Santa and also roamed around the party, snapping pictures of attendees.  Both types of photos were deeply appreciated.

The Winter Ball was actually a very special event for both the partygoers and photographers.  The partygoers were an extraordinary group of people!  They danced, posed for photos with Santa, also danced with Santa, competed in contests, and enjoyed dinner and each other’s company immensely.

There were some very touching moments during this year’s Winter Ball.  One of the most special moments occurred immediately after the crowning of the King and Queen.  In thanking everyone who voted for her, the newly crowned Queen gave a speech about how much she loves her fellow seniors and how much they mean to her.  Her speech was heartfelt and deeply moving.

Similar sentiments were freely expressed throughout the night.  Many attendees put their arms around each other and asked the photographers to take their picture together, explaining that the other person is their best friend.  Couples slow danced and fast danced out on the dance floor.  So much dancing talent and so much joy!  One woman actually danced in her wheelchair, spinning around so many times, one of her wheels broke.

The photographers were especially moved by stories about how much their personal photos taken by LPA photographers at other events meant to them, how they had shared them with their children and grandchildren.  That certainly brought tears of joy to the photographers’ eyes.  One of the photographers even received a kiss on the cheek in thanks for photographing them at the Winter Ball.

If you get a chance to photograph at a future AV Senior Center event, I would highly recommend it.
