Marine invertebrates Field Trip - October 16, 2016

Archives

Lets Go To The Beach to take photographs of marine invertebrates. On Sunday, October 16 there will be a minus tide at Leo Carrillo State Park (Leo Carrillo State Beach). The tide charts show a  -.5 tide at Ventura at 4:24pm. A low tide allows more of the intertidal zone to be exposed. The best time to photograph in the rocky intertidal zone begins an hour before and continues for an hour after the low tide.  Participants should be aware that the rocky intertidal zone can be very slippery.  Wear a pair of athletic shoes to walk in the water and have a dry pair to wear home. Sunset is at 6:30 that evening so we will have an opportunity for a beach sunset also.  Surfers can also be found at Leo Cabrillo State Park. Following sunset those that wish can join us at Neptune’s Net for dinner.  We plan to be at the beach about 3pm.  According to the state park website there is some road reconstruction but pedestrian access is available.  Please sign up on the website so we can contact you about any late breaking field trip developments.  Sample photographs from Leo Carrillo can be found at Google Images.
