Oct, 2015 - Travel

Image must express the feeling of a time and place, and portray a land, its distinctive features or culture in its natural state. There are no geographical limitations. Close-up pictures of people or objects must include distinguishable environment. Note: An image taken just while traveling may or may not fit this definition. The primary elements of the image must be distinctive with respect to features or culture. MUST include the location where the photograph was taken on entry form. March, 2016 - Creative

Creative is defined as altered reality that is apparent to the viewer. This definition includes alterations utilizing: colored lights and gels, black light, Mylar, sandwiches, projected images, double exposures, zoomed images, lithograph, birefringence, and computer manipulation. The image should have strong composition, pleasing quality, and color, texture, pattern, and/or tone impact. The appropriateness of the technique selected and pictorial merit is considered in judging. Small amounts of manipulating images (changing opacity, using filters, adding text, fantasy or textured backgrounds, etc) is NOT considered Creative. The content is unrestricted. [Rev 01/2015]

June, 2016 - End of Year Competition

This competition will not be judged, instead our membership will also vote on their favorites. It is not necessary to resubmit your qualifying digital entries but prints must be brought to the competition. If you are not going to be able to make it please contact your competition chair to get your prints delivered to the competition.

Note: Reality based Classes of Nature, Travel, and Photojournalism

The Nature, Photo Travel, and Photojournalism Classes are all termed ‘Reality-Based Divisions’ because images entered are required to represent what the photographer actually saw. In addition to the definitions applicable to each of these Divisions, the following special rules apply: Borders are allowed with any Reality-Based Division entry/image, but must not exceed 3 pixels in width and must be white or a shade of grey. No techniques that add, relocate, replace, or remove pictorial elements except by cropping are permitted. Techniques that enhance the presentation of the photograph without changing the nature story or the pictorial content, or without altering the content of the original scene, are permitted including HDR, focus stacking and dodging/burning. Techniques that remove elements added by the camera, such as dust spots, digital noise, and film scratches, are allowed. Stitched images are not permitted. All allowed adjustments must appear natural. Color images can be converted to grey-scale monochrome. Infrared images, either direct-captures or derivations, are not allowed. [Rev 01/2015]
