At last Friday night's discussion group we talked about having a club BBQ. Since we all thought it was a great idea, I'll be speaking with the Board about dates, etc. when next we meet on April 14th.

Our club needs this in a big way so I hope we can generate a lot of club-wide interest. Not everyone in the club uses our site - something we need to focus some attention on - so we need to hit this hard in other formats, too. All I have is time so let me know if you need help with anything.

I think a club BBQ is a great idea. I'm sure we'd have a nice attendance.
All we need is someone to organize it.

We haven't done a club picture in a while either.

I'll be happy to coordinate this. I will bring this up to the Board at the next Board meeting. We'll try to set a date soon and we have a couple of locations suggested. Look for more information Smile

Great idea! Thank you Terri for volunteering to be coordinator. Anyone have any suggestions for locations? Since our group has grown so much, I think we'll need lots of space/ BBQ's and ideally a spot we can reserve. A spot with bleachers would be extra nice for that group photo.

I'll start the list...

Desert Sands Park - Palmdale - reservable pavilion will accommodate approximately 200 people and has four barbecue grills. * Fee: $34/hour.

Marie Kerr Park - Palmdale - Reservable pavillion. BBQ grills. Fee: unknown. There are grassy slopes in the park, good for setting up a group photo.

I normally hit all of the parks in the AV to get bird shots. As parks go, I like Lancaster City park and Marie Kerr in Palmdale. Lancaster has more trees but it can get crowded real fast. Marie Kerr is open, not as many trees, but it has a friendly atmosphere without some of the gangsta thugs that lancaster gets from time to time.

Rawley Duntley is a small park on Ave. K across from AVC. Good for loads of cowhead blackbirds, it has a small parking lot and can get crowded at the drop of a hat. Otherwise, I like it there. It has a covered portion with plenty of tables and trash cans.

Pelona Vista park in Palmdale is a neat place. Located between Tierra Subida Ave. and the 14, I attended disaster response/search and rescue training there a few years ago. Plenty of parking, not too many trees, well patrolled by county sheriff, no gangsta thugs, large and spread out but I forget if they have any bleachers. A very clean park.

Right around the corner from me is Tierra Bonita park on Lancaster Blvd. between 27th and 30th East. A large park next to a school, lots of families go there during summer. Good for cowheads and California ground squirrels.

Given the choices, I vote for Marie Kerr for its ease of access, location, large parking lot, family orientation and its proximity to an across the street grocery store in the event we need field or last minute resupply.

Pelona Vista - Palmdale - Very clean, very nice, lots of parking, but picnic tables are few and don't think they have BBQ's. If so, they are very scattered. Non reservable, but nice staircases for a group photo. Don't know when soccer season it, but if it's soccer season the park and lots are maxed out.

Are we using the covered area that you can see from the Costco parking lot? I looked thru the fence and counted about 13 large picnic tables. It looks like they have a large bbq pit with several grills built in..I couldnt tell how many. There is a grassy area.. big enough for Bocci ball or ? We have Badminton and Croquet.. Lets hope its not still this windy by then!
Dont feel pressured to bbq your food.. Its Ok to bring a subway sandwich or ready made food!

I'll bring the leftover bright red table coverings from the LPA Xmas Banquet, and tape to attach. I think there is enough for a few tables.

Do we want a water balloon toss? Photo op/ Action Photography... I'll bring the water balloons.

Cheryl, Sue and Sue, Thanks for your offers, and I graciously accept them. The water balloon toss sounds fun!! Sue L. Yes that's the area we'll be at.

Sue Liberto is right, feel free to bring ready made food!

Cheryl, do you want me to pick up the charcoal? Or can you bring a couple of bags with you on Saturday? Along with the starter chimney would be great. I'll bring the newspaper for it.
