The end of the year is an ideal time to organize a digital photograph file system. Perhaps thinking of it as an overdue New Years Resolution will help. How many times have you thought of doing this, but didn't, because it was the middle of the year?
The time is rapidly approaching for some great outdoor photography when some of the best pictures are taken during the time of sunrise and sunset. I'll try to point out some of the idiosyncrasies of shooting at those times, and the basic equipment, problems, and techniques used.

Sometimes, as a photographer you have to look hard to find a scene that merits capturing after arriving at a new destination.
Ever run into that problem? It has happened several times to me over the years. The problem most often encountered is lighting. The flat, low contrast light at noon is discouraging, and you may have to look for something colorful to compensate.
A good example of natural lighting is to capture the color of a red rose faintly reflected in a subject, a technique straight from fine art.
Vegas, Zion and Bryce Canyon
If you’ve ever seen slides or prints of Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks, or visited those locations yourself, you know the reason why Pat, Wendy and I had to make the pilgrimage to this photographer’s Mecca in Southwestern Utah. Ours was a week-long trip, filled with exciting mountain scenery and spectacular photography opportunities.
Shooting the Balloon Sky Parade Was Good for the Spirit. After losing my Dad to Alzheimer’s disease recently, I needed a spiritual and emotional boost to get my creative wheels turning again.

Bergthold's program, titled "Ghost Camps of the Argus Range," was an account of his backpacking trips to old and sometimes forgotten mining locations west of Death Valley.
If you have a hard time thinking about what kind of vacation to take, you’re probably like me. My wife, Pat, and I always go around and around about taking a cruise, driving our own car, or taking a bus tour. This time a bus tour to Canada won. I’m glad we did it, but Pat says never again! She got tired of all the packing and regimentation.
