2011-2012 Competition Year

July 19, 2011 - Images of the Prime Desert Woodland Preserve

Digital Competition Only

The LPA July 19 2011 competition will be for images of the Prime Desert Woodland Preserve (PDWP) shot beginning October 12, 2010. All types of images are acceptable, flora, fauna, people, and structures. Images from the competition will be used to produce a DVD for the PDWP to be shown in the PDWP Interpretive Center. It is hoped that we will have images from spring, summer and early autumn. This will be a community service project.

The PDWP is located at 35th St. West and Ave. K-8. It is approximately 100 acres with 3 miles of trails and is open from 6am until sunset. Admission is free It has desert flora and fauna as well as migratory birds.

Picturesque scenes such as landscapes, seascapes or scenic views. Our Judge will be Noella Ballenger.

Oct 18, 2011 - Monochrome

Monochrome images must be black and white, or black and white plus one fully-toned color. Fully-toned means that a single tint (such as cyan or sepia) is applied across the entire image. Photographs in any class may be submitted. All levels (Novice, Amateur, Advanced Amateur, and Master) and all divisions (prints, digital images, and slides) are included in this competition.

Jan 17, 2012 - Open

Images from any of the standard competition classes may be submitted.

March 20, 2012 - Portrait

Portrayal of a person or persons.

May 15, 2012 - AV Events

Antelope Valley Events Competition Definition:

Photographs taken at Antelope Valley events between 1 July 2011 and the deadline for submission to the LPA Antelope Valley Events Competition are eligible. Any municipality that has an entrant in the 2011 Miss Antelope Valley Contest qualifies as part of the Antelope Valley. Any event associated with the above-mentioned municipalities qualifies as an Antelope Valley Event. In addition, the Acton Gymkhana is an Antelope Valley Event. Some examples of Antelope Valley Events follow:

  • The Antelope Valley Fair
  • High School and College Sporting Events in the Antelope Valley
  • Lancaster BLVD events such as Halloween celebration
  • Parades in the Antelope Valley
  • Automobile Club events in the Antelope Valley
  • Events at Willow Springs Raceway
  • Political events in the Antelope Valley
  • The Antelope Valley Poppy Festival
  • The Edwards Air Force Base Open House
  • Lancaster Sheriff Station community service events
  • Boron 20 Mule-Team Days
  • Fox Field Fly-Ins

Prints, digital photographs, and slides at all levels will be eligible to compete in the Antelope Valley Events Competition.

June 19, 2012 - End of Year Competition

This competition will be judged and our membership will also vote on their favorites. It is not necessary to resubmit your qualifying digital entries but prints and slides must be brought to the competition.
