Digital Competition Only
The LPA July 19 2011 competition will be for images of the Prime Desert Woodland Preserve (PDWP) shot beginning October 12, 2010. All types of images are acceptable, flora, fauna, people, and structures. Images from the competition will be used to produce a DVD for the PDWP to be shown in the PDWP Interpretive Center. It is hoped that we will have images from spring, summer and early autumn. This will be a community service project.
The PDWP is located at 35th St. West and Ave. K-8. It is approximately 100 acres with 3 miles of trails and is open from 6am until sunset. Admission is free It has desert flora and fauna as well as migratory birds.
Picturesque scenes such as landscapes, seascapes or scenic views. Our Judge will be Noella Ballenger.
Monochrome images must be black and white, or black and white plus one fully-toned color. Fully-toned means that a single tint (such as cyan or sepia) is applied across the entire image. Photographs in any class may be submitted. All levels (Novice, Amateur, Advanced Amateur, and Master) and all divisions (prints, digital images, and slides) are included in this competition.
The competition for January has been changed from Open to Nature to narrow the scope and facilitate judging. The exact date for the January competition depends on floor maintenance at the Senior Center. Sometimes that interferes with the third Tuesday (this year, January 17) meeting date. A definite date will be available later in the autumn. The definition for Nature competitions is: Something that exists in nature: An insect, butterflies, leaves, etc. Includes birds and fish, no man made objects. No elements may be moved, cloned, added, deleted, rearranged, or combined. No manipulation or modification is permitted except resizing, cropping, selective lightening or darkening, and restoration of original color of the scene. No special effect filters can be applied. Any sharpening must appear natural.

Antelope Valley Events Competition Definition:
Photographs taken at Antelope Valley events between 1 July 2011 and the deadline for submission to the LPA Antelope Valley Events Competition are eligible. Any municipality that has an entrant in the 2011 Miss Antelope Valley Contest qualifies as part of the Antelope Valley. Any event associated with the above-mentioned municipalities qualifies as an Antelope Valley Event. In addition, the Acton Gymkhana is an Antelope Valley Event. Prints, digital photographs, and slides at all levels will be eligible to compete in the Antelope Valley Events Competition.
This competition will not be judged, instead our membership will vote on their favorites. It is not necessary to resubmit your qualifying digital entries but prints and slides must be brought to the competition.
