HI all, here is what our rules state,
18. PANORAMIC - is any wide-angle view or representation of a physical space, cropped or stitched together to form a long/narrow photo in either the horizontal or vertical format. (Panoramic prints may be up to 320 square inches in area in Novice, Amateur, and Advanced levels and up to 408 square inches in the Master level.)
To get your Area take the width and multiply it by the height, the number you get will be your area.
Please note, the panos can also be vertical.
Here is a great article on the Canon web site by George Lepp

I look forward to seeing all of your wonderful work.
Thanks and good luck to all!

Since our judge is coming from S4C I looked up their competition rules to see what I could find. I found nothing on "panorama," their many "Pictorial" categories were confusing, their link to "Pictorial Large" was broken, and their handbook differed enough from their web site to cause some confusion.
From what I've reasearched I would say that, to create a winning photo, you should take your photo of landscape (land and/or water), have at least a 100 degree sweep of the horizon (preferably 120 to 180 degrees), have everything in sharp focus with good exposure, it should at least appear that it was taken in multiple shots and stitched together, and it should be cropped so that it's at least four times as wide as it is high.
Just to get into the competition you might get away with any landscape or pictorial photo that's noticibly wider than high and cropped from a single shot, but it probably won't win any awards.
Those are just my thoughts. I would like to hear what other people think.
