This is a last minute thing that I only learned about this past Saturday - This coming Saturday, February 5th, will be the date for the annual Chinese New Years Parade in China Town, Los Angeles. Unfortunately, I did not have time to organize a field trip to this event, but I want to pass it on to anyone who is interested. The easiest way to get there is on the Metrolink No. 262 which leaves Lancaster at 9:13am (leaves Palmdale at 9:23am), and arrives at Union Station in Los Angeles at 11:20am. The parade starts at 1:00pm and will travel both on Hill St. and on Broadway. From Union Station, it about a 4 block walk to the parade route (plus plan on doing a lot of walking once you get there). There are two trains returning to the A.V the first one Metrolink No. 267 which leaves Union Station at 4:05pm and arrives at Palmdale at 5:53pm and Lancaster at 6:10pm. The second one Metrolink No. 269 leaves Union Station at 5:40pm and arrives at Palmdale at 7:29pm and Lancaster at 7:45pm. The cheapest way to get there is with the Metrolink's Friends and Family 4 Pack Day Pass. This gives you 4 round trip tickets for $29.95, but all 4 people must board together and ride together. If you do not get the 4 pack of tickets, then the round trip price from Lancaster is $25.50 per person ($13.00 for seniors 65+), and from Palmdale is $24.50 per person ($12.50 for seniors 65+). This should be a good day to shoot photojournalism and portrait type of pictures. Above all, if you do decide to go - HAVE FUN!!
