Just looking for some advice on what is the best lighting to buy for portrait photography. I'm leaning toward continuous lighting at this point.
I think I'll need to be mobile as well. Of course I'm on a budget but I also don't want to waste my money on a poor product.
Is buying used equipment wise?
I appreciate your help.

Thanks

My personal preference is monolight strobe and Speedlites for mobility.

Paul C. Buff Alien Bees and the Einstein are affordable and versatile. Also, they sell a battery pack that is very portable and will power two lights easily.

However, about once a year the club puts on a model shoot where you can try out each of the four lighting setups and get an idea of which is better for you.

Just my two cents.

I built a California King size softbox that I use in my garage studio. I started with these plans and made my own mods. I recommend the site to build good equipment.
