It is. I need work (big time) on apertures and speed settings. All too often, I set the mode to auto and hope for the best which doesn't always work out for me. If I'm ever to take decent pictures, I really need to get into what my camera can do, not only apertures and speed, but other features as well.

The manual that came with our cameras do point out different features but fail to go into any real depth as to how to use them in a way that only experience and pro advice can offer. Tricky things like this cyber camera may help, too.
