I think it's gonna be a great year! Plenty of rain, freezing temps, add in some snow, and now I'm spotting lots of green grass and sprouts, and today saw my first Joshua Tree with 3 big blossoms forming. I made a visit to Placerita Canyon and the creek is running, and the canyon is full of greenery.

Death Valley has already had over 2" of rain for the season (the total on a good year). If you haven't made your reservations for the LPA trip, and like wildflowers, you need to do that! It may not be the same as the 100 year bloom, but think it's gonna be nice. The ranger does too...

Death Valley Wildflower Report 2009

Feb. 8, 2009 Jordan DV ranger reports: Death Valley NP have recieved between 1 and 2" of rain parkwide in just the past few days. All park roads are currently flooded and closed! This spring should be a spectacular wildflower year!

This is from the Poppy Reserve website
The Jane S. Pinheiro Interpretive Center will be opening for the wildflower season on Saturday, March 14.
Applications are now being accepted for volunteering at the Reserve (click here).

As of January, we've already had a couple big rainstorms and a few inches of snow. Poppies love snow! Barring any devastating freezes or unusual heat waves, we're expecting this could be a spectacular year. But PLEASE NOTE! Our predictions are only tentative because both Mother Nature and poppies are finicky.

Hi all, as some of you know I live by the Poppy Reserve in West Lancaster. On my way home today guess what I saw? Well the poppies are already out and about. Not the millions as in the later part of the year but quite a few along Lancaster Road between Munz Ranch and the Poppy Reserve. So if you want to take a picture or 2 you can already get at it.
Have fun!
