I'm thinking of picking up that program now that I have a computer worthy of handling the processing. Do you think that HDR program is worth the money? Easy for the experienced photographer but so for the novice? I know my way around computers fairly well so that isn't an issue.

If you take landscapes or interiors it is probable worth the $75, but try it out for free first. It is easy to use. Just try first using the default settings.
I have used photoshop to composite two or more images to try to achieve the same results as Photomatix. After a lot of mask and such, the result is not as good as Photomatix can deliver. Note there are two versions of the program, a standalone application and a plug-in to Photoshop. What was demonstrated was the standalone version. So if you don't shoot landscapes, especially sunrise, sunsets, places where there are deep shade and bright sunlight, then you won't find the program very useful. To get good results you have to shoot a series of exposures to capture the brightest and darkest part of the scene. If I can get Arley to post a picture for me I show one sunset that is impossible to capture any other way.
The Pro version of Photomatix includes the Photoshop plug in but their websites says that the standalone version has more capabilities. I have only used the standalone version.
