Rummaging around in my camera "junk" drawer, I found a small tripod I bought early on to hold my point and shoot digital camera, a Sony Cyber-shot "Super Steady Shot DSC-W80." My initial introduction to digital photography, that Sony is a nice little camera.

Anyway, it has video capability and I thought about using it at PDWP to help monitor primary coyote hunting trails using that small tripod. I brought it to our Friday night meet to test the camera's battery life in video mode. John figured I'd get about an hour's worth of video. Before the battery went flat, I ended up with an hour and a half on a fully charged battery. I thought that I would share the results of my little test.

First off, the entire video was grainy. Depending upon the lighting, it got more or less grainy. When the video had light fixtures in the shot, I got long vertical light streaks that varied from yellow to purple, mostly blue. During the day, outside, I expect better video quality.

What surprised me was audio quality. I don't know if pumping audio through my computer's 7.1 surround sound had anything to do with it, the overall audio quality was nothing shy of great. Even with background chatter and noise, I could make out what everyone sitting at our table said. That level of audio reproduction will serve me well as it will be easier to determine what other critters are in the area even though they may not show up on video.

With plans of using it at the preserve, my only issue now is whether or not the coyotes will leave it alone. I have camo netting and such I can use to hide it but coyotes have an incredible sense of smell. Do they ever! That may work in my favor though if I can get our resident couple to play in front of the camera.

All in all, I'm happy with the results. And, yes, Bonnie, I erased it. LOL
