Today I took the drive from Lake Elizabeth to Palmdale to see if the leaves were turning. They're starting and I estimate about 10% along. A few trees are well into turning yellow and maybe 1/4 have some yellowing to the leaves. Another week and there should be some good color, mostly yellow though.

Green Valley is a little lower down in elevation and I'd guess another week or two before their trees start.

I passed an apple orchard with fruit that looked about ripe and the leaves were starting to turn. They're close enough to the road that, with a good telephoto, you should be able to close in on individual apples and their closest leaves. I hope to go back this weekend. I think early morning would be best.

The tamarisk are turning orange, though I didn't see much of it along the way.

I also saw a small herd of longhorn cattle and some llamas near the road.
