[image1_left]Serge Ramelli will be discussing Landscape Photography and Retouching with us on February 19, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. at the Antelope Valley Senior Center.

[image2_right]We are very excited to have him presenting to Lancaster Photography Association! Invite your friends who are interested in photography. He has some great resources, and he will be offering his courses to us at a discount.

His words regarding his upcoming presentation:

In 2005 a friend of mine showed me what you can do with Photoshop and turned an ok portrait into a magazine cover. I was amazed, since my earliest childhood I wanted to create art, images and videos. What I like about it, is that all it took to create a great piece of art was a camera and a software, the rest was up to my skills and imagination.

Lancaster Photography will be having our first competition of the year on January 15, 2019. Our Class will be “Action”. The definition of “Action” per our rules is: “Motion being portrayed as the dominant theme, includes sports”. 

The deadline for entering the Competition will be January 8 th at 11:59 p.m. PST. Please make sure to upload your images as early as possible to avoid last-minute issues. The cost is a $5.00 entry fee, for up to three images. Log-in and upload your images HERE.

Our judge will be Joanne Stolte, who has been a great judge for us in the past. She will also be giving a small presentation on the SoCal PSA Chapter Event happening in March

On December 18, 2018 at 6:00, we will be having our annual Holiday Party, complete with food, games and caroling. We do need volunteers to bring the food items, so check out the sign-up sheet below and sign-up beside what you can bring. We have turkey and ham and need to fill in with all the appropriate side dishes and dessert.

We also will be having a White Elephant Gift Exchange, so every person who attends should bring a wrapped gift worth no more than $10.00. It should be a lot of fun!

We look forward to seeing you all there! It should be a great time of getting to know each other a little better.

On November 27th, Lancaster Photography Association will host a Photography Sharing Night along with a Swap Meet for those who would like to sell off some of the equipment you are no longer using.

First, for the Photo Sharing portion, you can upload up to 10 images to the website from the link below or you can bring in a thumb drive loaded with 10 images. You will need to upload by November 20 if you don’t want to bring the thumb drive. Either way, you can share what you have been doing lately, a project you have done or just some of your favorite images. We want to see what everyone is doing these days. You can speak about your images, or we can just run through them with no comments. That is up to you. Click here to upload your images.

For the Swap Meet portion, please have your photo equipment labeled if needed and priced if you want to get a specific amount for it.  We want to make it as easy as possible for everyone. We will try to make sure we have about 30-45 minutes to share our equipment.

Refreshments will be provided as well.

[image1_left]Our next competition will be held on October 16th at 6:00 at AVSC. The theme for this competition is: Close-up. You may enter up to 3 images. The cost of entry is $5.00. The deadline for entering is October 9, at 11:59 p.m.

[image2_right]The definition is: Photographs of small subjects or close up views of sections of large subjects. Think of this Class as “close up” to the subject. A photo of a faraway galaxy appears closer using a telescope, but it’s not a close-up image. A close-up on a face is good, but maybe better is a close up of an eye. This class is expecting some level of magnification.

Our judge is Kevin Karzin, the president of the Santa Clarita Valley Photographers club. He spoke earlier this year to us about Portrait lighting.

[image1_left]Bob Ginn spent 24 years in the daily newspaper grind (LA, NY, Wichita, Redding and others) and did about everything, then moved out on his own in 1988. He has done over 2,500 published assignments in over 120 countries - and will use that/those images to (he hopes) entertain you and give you information YOU can use for your work with a camera. He talks about most subjects from cameras to lenses to IDEAS on what make a photo successful in everything from PR stand-ups to clubs/PSA/pro contests.

He went digital in the late 90's and never looked back. If you are expecting much about photoshopping images, he states most of you are probably better at it as he is not very "deep" into it, although he does it and also uses Nik. He will bring some prints along (10-15 large ones) to show you why he NEVER use raw - just JPEG! He believes that content is everything!!! He also looks at things in a deeper fashion (sometimes out of "fashion&quot and finds his work sells well. He does well in most photo contests - which tells him little beyond what those judges liked. He also does rather well in the PSA/camera club world and has done so for some 45+ years, having been 18 times top of one or another of the PSA Who's Who listings. He struggles to suffer shallow "thinking", lack of photographic back-grounding and most fools too much, if any extent, but does enjoy being pushed by interesting questions from shooters. He will take questions after his presentation! His odd humor is odd!!! Fair warning!

[image1_left]On Tuesday, August 28th at 6:00 p.m. the Lancaster Photography Association (LPA) is going to have local photographer and teacher, Melissa Beach, come and teach us some tips and tricks on taking great food photographs.

[image2_right]She has been a food blogger for about ten years and has been learning photography for the past 20 years. She enjoys sharing what she knows, so we should have a great time learning. Bring your cameras and lighting and we will have some food items available to do some hands-on food photography as well.

On July 17th, the Lancaster Photography Association will be having an Open Competition at 6:00 at the Antelope Valley Senior Center. All members are encouraged to participate. The fee is 5.00 for three images.

The OPEN category is defined as any photograph you have taken, regardless of subject matter. The new size of uploaded images is now 1400 pixels wide by 1280 pixels tall.

Our judge will be Paul Speaker, who has been a great judge in the past, and should be able to give some great critiques on our images. We will be hosting a dinner at Greenhouse Café at 4:30 to spend time with him before the meeting. Feel free to join us!
