Field Trip: Venice Beach, May 10

Archives

On Saturday, May 10th for the next Photojournalism competition. Plan to meet at the front of the parking lot at the end of Venice Blvd at 9:30am. We will have the opportunity to photograph surfers, skateboarders and lots of interesting people. After lunch we will walk down to the Santa Monica Pier to take photos by the traveling rings. If that is too far for you to walk, you can move your car down to the pier and join us there.

I will be leading a field trip to Venice Beach so everyone can practice shooting I would suggest bringing a moderate telephoto lens for this day trip. Don't forget your sunscreen and your biggest memory card as you can take a lot of photos shooting action.

Sign up below if you'd like to join us.

Workshop: Photo Critique and Ice Cream Social, May 27

Archives

You Be the Judge… a workshop where the LPA members critique images.

Join us on May 27th at 6pm at the Senior Center for a special ice cream social and photo critique.

You can submit anonymously up to 5 photos on our website for our members to critique. It’s a great opportunity to get some positive feedback on the AV Fair photos you are considering for entry. You also may want to submit photos you are considering for up and coming LPA, S4C or PSA competitions. We need all skill levels from Masters to Novice. It’s all anonymous just like the competitions we hold quarterly.

If you don’t have any photos to submit, that’s OK, come and enjoy some ice cream and help your fellow members improve their photography skills.

2014 California Poppy Festival - April 26-27, 2014

April 26-27 – Lancaster City Park

http://www.poppyfestival.com

LPA’s 10th Year of Participation!

The LPA will be participating in the 2014 Poppy Festival, in the Fine Arts Division, for the 10th year in a row. Participation has always been great, attendance high, and we always pick up new members during the event. It’s a great opportunity to be involved in a fun community service project, to promote photography and the LPA, and an opportunity to learn how to display/sell your work.  Plus… it’s a wonderful opportunity to hang out with other photo club members and talk PHOTOGRAPHY!

Please consider signing up on the LPA website to work a shift. New members are encouraged to participate. All Sat/Sun volunteers receive a free pass to the festival (up to an $8 value).

All LPA members are invited to submit "framed/under glass/ready to hang" photos (up to 3) for display (or for sale). Full wrapped canvas photos are ok too. The larger the photo, the more eye catching it will be. Smaller items such as matted prints and greeting cards sell well. Photos do not have to be poppy-related. Show off your best work!

  • 20% of all sales will be withheld for “donation” to LPA
  • No checks.  Cash or Credit only
  • Release of Liability needed

All photos need to be dropped off at the booth on Friday, April 25th between 2:00pm and 5:00pm.  We will need help with take-in, getting our booth ready and hanging photos. Please sign up below if you'd like to sell items, and indicate what you'll be selling.

If you have any additional questions, please contact your chairperson Sue Craft (sue@suecraftphotography.com) or co-chair Tylene Trout (mtrout1@aol.com).

Valentine's Day Rock & Roll Dance

Event Photography at the AV Senior Center
February 14th , 2014 , Valentine’s Day, 1:30pm to 4:30pm

The senior center is having Valentine ’s Day party. It’s a great opportunity to get photos of some of our AV seniors on this special day. They love having their pictures taken and we can support the senior center at the same time.

You can work on your posing and flash photography in a relaxed environment. There’s no pressure…just a fun time taking photos.
It’s early in the day so you’ll have plenty of time for your own valentine celebration.

We usually give the senior center a CD of some of the shots from the day. They print them for the participants who attend. I can do that for anyone who would like help.

Please contact me if you can help make this event special for our AV seniors.

Presented by:  Noella Ballenger, March 25, 2014, 6:00pm – 8:00pm
at the AV Senior Center, 777 Jackman St., Lancaster

Noella Ballenger will be returning to the LPA and presenting a Macro/Close Up photo workshop.  She will share tips on how to photograph objects close up, and then will be available to provide individual help at our photo stations around the room.  Bring your cameras!  If you have accessories such as teleconverters, extension tubes, tripod, or flash, bring them.  A macro lens, or telephoto lens is nice, but not required.  If you have a light tent to share, please bring it.  If you have any small interesting objects to photograph, bring those too.

Noella is a professional nature and wildlife photographer, and author.  She also teaches on-line photography classes, and offers a monthly photo critique “Image Talk” through Apogee Photo Magazine.  Noella has presented programs, flower workshops, and judged for LPA, and was presenter at the Southern California Photography conference.

You’re invited to join Noella for a no-host dinner at 4:30pm at the Greenhouse Café, in Lancaster, before the workshop.
