AV Fair Photography News

Archives

Ok photography friends, it is time to register your photos for the AV Fair.  Regular registration closes July 7 @ 5 PM ($3 fee per entry).  Late registration will be available and the Fair waived the  additional $5 late fee this year.  Late entries accepted  from July 8 - July 21 @ 5 PM.

When you register your entries, please try to enter all your information and classify your entries correctly.  If you find you need to make changes, please call the entry office at 661-948-6060, ext 154.  The fewer changes that need to be made at Take-In, the faster and easier Take-In will be for everyone.

The AV Fair will be here before we know it.  We will need the help of nearly everyone to Decorate the Building, Take-In Prints, Hang the Prints, Clerk on Judging Day, and Monitor the exhibit during the AV Fair.  This it the biggest project the LPA takes on each year.  The LPA started putting on the photography exhibit more than 40 years ago.  It’s a great opportunity to do something nice for our community, and fun event to participate in with your fellow photo friends.  Please sign-up to help on the .

There will be two different days for Clerk Training sessions for those who are volunteering to clerk.  All AV Fair Clerks need to attend either the 1pm or the 6pm training session on Monday, July 16 in the Van Dam Building (West of Poppy Building).  The second, for Photography Clerks will be on Monday, July 23 at 6PM at Douglas Wade’s house at 6pm.   It’s easy, it’s fun, you just need to be shown how to do it.  Back up clerks are needed too.  New volunteers are always welcome.  Trained clerks and pre-designated helpers are the only ones allowed in the photography building on judging days.

Cherry Picking Field Trip - June 17, 1:00-3:00pm

This field trip is a local one, mostly to support the AV Fair. This year’s Fair’s theme is Cherry Jammin’ and the AV Fair asked us to help with supplying images to support the theme. We will arrive at Villa del Sol on June 17 at 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Ok, you may be thinking, kinda boring. I would suggest you make it a family event or for Father’s day, and invite your kids and grandkids, and actually do some cherry picking.

This field trip is to connect cherries and people. I suggest you photograph the cherries, the branches, and of course your family. Make a memory, and be willing to share it with the fair. They want to use the images for possible promotion.

Please sign up below if you'd like to attend.

Mono Lake and Bodie Field Trip: September 14-15, 2012

Archives

Led by David and Christine Wilkins

Update 8/6/2012 - Photographer’s Day at Bodie has changed since the LPA was there 3 years ago.  Now you get less for more.  Last time we could enter ½ hour before sunrise and stay till ½ hour after sunset for $50.  Now they want $75 to arrive at sunrise and till 9AM (actually until closing time in the evening).  You are welcome to sign up for this through the Bodie Foundation, but Chris and I are going to pass on the early entry.  Thanks to Sue Liberto for getting this information.

The LPA had a field trip to Mono Lake and Bodie three years ago and it was a very popular outing.  Many of the images taken on that trip have won awards for several members.  Chris and I decided to go again this September and make it a field trip for the LPA.  What makes this September date so special is that the weather is cooler by September, the new moon is Friday, the 14th and Saturday, the 15th is photographer’s day at Bodie.

I think Mono Lake is a great place to photograph star trails and do a little light painting as well as a great place for sunset/sunrise.  The new moon or no moon night makes a perfect opportunity for night photography.  We plan on driving to Lee Vining on Friday the 14th to catch sunset over Mono Lake and then to photograph star trails and light paint the tufa.  One can return for sunrise early on Saturday and then head back to Lee Vining for breakfast before spending the rest of the day at Bodie.

Sign up below if you'd like to go. You need to be a current LPA member to attend.

So. Cal. Photo Conference Gallery - June 16th, 2012

Archives

We expect to display approximately six photographs in the Harley Davidson Memorial Hall at the Lancaster Fair Grounds during the one day Southern California Photography Conference 2012 on June 16th, 2012. The photographs to be displayed will be selected by a LPA Panel,  based upon digital images submitted via the LPA Website, Competition Entry Section.  Deadline for entry will be at Midnight on Friday, June 8th, 2012.

UPDATED GUIDELINES: 16 by 20 inch (or larger) prints are recommended, mounted and matted, under glass, preferably in simple black frames.  Minimum frame size 20 by 24 (or 480 sq inches), but recommend 22 by 28 inches or larger (616 sq inches or larger). The images may be in Color of Black and White. If printed on Artists Canvas they don’t need to be under glass, but should be framed as a painting for gallery display. (NOTE: If your image is selected by panel of judges to be in the SCPC Gallery, you will need to frame/matte/mount accordingly. Larger prints are strongly encouraged as they are representative of what one would see in a “gallery” show).
