On September 19 th at 6:00 p.m. at the AV Senior Center, Lancaster Photography Association presents Amanda Thompson and Joe Doherty speaking about photographing the birds of the Sepulveda Basin, nestled in the middle of the bustling San Fernando Valley. Amanda has a book about to be published and has created some spectacular images in the Sepulveda Basin. She will share how this habitat came to be and how we can achieve similar results! We will also learn about the Sierra Club Camera Club from Joe, who is the chairman of their Camera Committee and produces their magazine, Focal Points.

On August 15, 2023, Lancaster Photography Association presents Jerry Venz, PPA M.Photog.,Cr., FPPC, SPPC, speaking about Action Photography.

Jerry has been doing extreme action photography for over 50 years - spanning both the film and digital eras.  Examples include many motor sports such as formula race cars, Grand Prix motorcycles, motocross, top fuel dragsters, funny cars, drag bikes, WWII fighters and bombers. Some of the non-motorized sports have been BMX, hang gliders, sailboats, and rodeo.

While all action photography is challenging, Jerry will share his insights into what IS the most challenging, and how you can improve the quality of your action photography.

On July 18, 2023, Lancaster Photography Association will be having the first competition of our new competition year. It is an Open Competition. That means that any photograph you have taken is eligible for entry. This gives you a chance to enter your favorites that may not have been able to be entered due to the Themes of our past year’s competitions.

The Deadline is July 13 th at 11:59 p.m. We are adding a couple of extra days due to the holidays. Enter your submissions here.

Our judge will be Hutch Hutchison, who has judged many times for us in the past and will be able to give great feedback on the images.

On June 20, 2023 at 6:00, join us for our End-Of-Year Photography Competition where our LPA members get to vote for their favorite photos of the year! All first-place winners from throughout the past competition year are eligible to compete for our EOY awards.

We will be installing our new board for 2023-2024. We will also be recognizing our members who helped as chairpersons and volunteers this past year to help make our club a success.

Refreshments will be served, so join us for a great time of socializing as we end the year on a high note!

We encourage all our members to enter. It is a great way to learn how to improve your images, as each image gets a short critique from the judge.

Learn the art and science of product photography! We will cover everything from lighting and composition to camera settings and post-processing, giving you the tools and knowledge you need to crate stunning product photos that will help you showcase your products in the best possible light.

On March 21, 2023, LPA will be having a competition. The theme will be Human Interest. Please upload your entries by 03/15/2023 at 11:59 P.M.

Our competition judge is Kevin Karzin, who is an amazing photographer and judge! 

DEFINITION OF HUMAN INTEREST – Human Interest is defined as an image depicting a person or persons in an interactive, emotional or unusual situation,
excluding recreational or organized sports action.

Guidelines for Human Interest Images: As with all reality-based divisions, techniques that add, relocate, replace or remove any element of the original image, except by
cropping, are not permitted. The only allowable modifications are removal of dust, scratches or digital noise, restoration of the existing appearance of the original scene, sharpening that is not obvious, and complete conversion to grayscale monochrome. Other derivations, including infrared, are not eligible. All allowed adjustments must
appear natural.

“Restoration of the appearance of the original scene” may include techniques such as HDR, focus stacking and dodging/burning provided they do not alter the contents of the original scene and the result looks natural.

Borders are optional, but must be 3 or 4 pixels in width and must be white or a shade of grey.

Join us on February 21, 2023 at AVSC at 6:00 p.m. for an informative meeting about Beginning Photography. Our members will share their knowledge regarding basic camera skills, photography composition, equipment, post-processing programs, and where to find further training.

It will be a great opportunity to bring your friends who want to learn more about photography or to refresh your basic knowledge.
