Help! Suggestions are Needed…

We have a problem to solve… we need to be out of the Senior Center each evening by 8pm (under our contract terms with the SC). We do a pretty good job of meeting our contractual agreement (done by 8pm) most nights, except for competition nights. We need to be DONE and OUT of the building by 8pm. We have digital, prints and slides to show/critique, have requested that all entries be “pre-entered” and are still under a time crunch. Your ideas and suggestions are needed to figure out a solution to this dilemma.

We could skip the break and snacks that nite.....ask judge to narrow pics down to ribbons and only critique those?

My long time suggestion has been to have the pictures run thru for the judge & audience. Have the judge narrow down their selections, comment & then award. They can comment on any picture, good or bad, not just winners, that stand out.
We can then have a discussion section set up on the web site that will display all entries for all member to critique, comment, etc.

One thing that I observe, is that each group speaker gets to give updates about their group or task. I would suggest when the meeting is running long, such as when a guest speaker runs long or competitions, that Sue encapsulate the groups items to a few words. When the speaker or workshop is running short, allow each member to talk. This way it length of announcements can be "throttled" to meet our target exit time.

That's a good idea. I'd even say that on competition nights we should just plan on doing that in advance. Ask the board members & chairpersons to e-mail their notes to Sue (or someone, Sue doesn't have to do it all...) ahead of time.

An added benefit is that we'd have the details to plug into the meeting minutes on the web without Bonnie having to furiously type them as they're spoken.

We can add a request to the meeting announcement that goes out before the competition.

Due to the sheer volume of entries, I feel that that we should run through the pictures and then have the judge pick out the winners and critique on those. Perhaps we could set up critique sessions outside of the club meetings or on the forum as has been suggested.

One can still learn things from the critique of a winning photograph.
