I am planning on going to Bishop for the fall color pictures, and I am wondering when I should go..I was planning on the weekend of the 2 3 and 4 of October..but I think I may be the following weekend..Those of you who just went through Bishop to Bodie..what would be your estimate,as to which weekend would be better..Also..i have ben told that it is a good idea to use a nd filter..but which one??

It’s hard to predict the “peak” for a particular area as so variable year to year, and dependant upon the weather, temperature, etc… but the colors start turning first at the highest elevations, and work their way down. Last weekend (9/18-9/20) the leaves were yellow at Rock Creek Lake at the 9700 ft level. I’ve been to the June Lake loop many times in mid-late October and found color, but it’s at a much lower elevation (7600 ft). So pretty much anytime you go the end of September and first two weeks of October, you’ll find color, if you go to the right place/ elevation.
